The sequel to the successful multiplayer first-person shooter video game Titanfall 2 is just two months away and Electronic Arts (EA) revealed a new gameplay trailer.

Titanfall 2, with developer Respawn Entertainment and publisher EA once again pulling the strings, is scheduled to hit stores on October 28. The title will be available for Microsoft Windows (PC), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One but its technical multiplayer test (or beta) will only be playable in the latter two.

In stores October 28 for $60

Titanfall was released back in 2014 and became a huge hit in the RPG shooter genre. Respawn Entertainment and EA didn’t hesitate and chose to seize the moment. Reports about the sequel to Titanfall began to circulate soon after the game’s release in March 2014.

Sources claimed the follow-up would not be exclusively made for Microsoft’s console and that EA would serve again as publisher. Titanfall 2 was in the planning stages by June 2014 and, in February 2015, an EA executive confirmed the non-exclusive was in the works.

Respawn Entertainment’s CEO Vince Zampella finally revealed it to be in development as of March 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The company was also working with Nexon, a company focused on mobile online gaming, to develop multiple Titanfall titles for iOS and Android.

Back in April, RE launched a teaser trailer for Titanfall 2 and then, last May, EA announced the game would be released on October 28. The standard edition will have a $60 price tag, while the deluxe version will cost $80.

A Titanfall 2 Vanguard Edition was also unveiled. For $250, it will feature the game’s deluxe edition, a full-scale replica helmet, an 8GB dog tag USB drive, field journal and theme-clothing like a Vanguard shemagh scarf.

Titanfall 2 will have a single-player campaign

Similar to the first installment, Titanfall 2 is a first-person shooter in which players can control both the pilots and the Titans, a mech-style exoskeletons. But unlike its predecessor, Titanfall 2 will have a traditional single-player campaign.

Ahead of Gamescom, EA revealed a new gameplay trailer for Titanfall 2. The story follows Frontier Militia rifleman Jack Cooper, the character players control, who is sent to an alien planet. There he allies, and bonds, with his former partner’s Titan named BT-7274 to fight alien and human enemies the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation.

Pilots can enhance their efficiency during combat via abilities like invisibility cloaking, parkouring, double-jumping, zip-lining and wall-running with a jetpack. The sequel offers seven new gameplay mechanics as well as more weapons and weapon customization.

The game introduced six new types of Titans, which players can summon once they have gained enough points. They can interact with the Titans during the campaign. Even though they are slower than the pilots, Titans are more powerful and yield stronger firearms.

Moreover, Titanfall 2 will also have a multiplayer mode with the improved skill system and matchmaking. A new feature called Networks will allow players to form and join several groups for matches.

Titanfall 2 was nominated for “Best of Show”, “Best Action Game” and won “Best Online Multiplayer” at the 2016 Game Critics Awards which took place at E3 2016. Electronic Arts expects to sell between 9 and 10 million units in the game’s first year of release.
