Nintendo Europe announced on its official website the release date of the ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘ amiibos. The new amiibos include a Archer Link, Rider Link, and The Guardian. They will launch on March 4, 2017.
Nintendo said the new Legend of Zelda title would debut both on the Wii U and the new Nintendo NX. The company usually releases amiibos along with the game or a few days later. That means, the new console could launch as early as January or February. However, Nintendo has not confirmed this information.
On the other hand, Kotaku’s forums have flooded with gamers discussing another possibility. They firmly believe that The Breath of the Wild will get separated release dates for the Nintendo Wii U (which will be sometime around March 2017) and the Nintendo NX coming later that year.
The Asian company has maintained a high level of secrecy regarding the NX. So far, there is no official information about the machine’s specs, price or even release date. Reggie Fils-Aimé said the NX would launch in Spring next year.
Nintendo does not want to compete directy with Sony or Microsoft
Both Sony and Microsoft have unveiled their new consoles. The later revealed Project Scorpio at the E3 claiming it is going to be the most powerful video game console in the market. Sony, on the other hand, presented new gaming stations at the PlayStation Meeting.
However, Nintendo is taking a different approach. During the E3, the company dedicated its space to talk about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It was also the first time the company presented the new amiibos, but there was no mention of the Nintendo NX.
Fans expected the company to mention the new console during the Tokyo Game Show 2016. However, again, the company focused on new games and other products. There might be a good reason for this.
Nintendo and Niantic might have gotten out of the food chain with Pokémon Go. Even though the app game has had a lot of problems, its economic success has no precedent. So, Nintendo does not really have to compete directly with Sony or Microsoft as it created a whole new market where it does not have serious competition yet.
Nintendo NX rumors
The company’s secrecy has not stopped people from creating their own theories about the new console. Video game news sites have said the company is not going to release a ultraa high-end console like Microsoft and sony but rather something comparable to the PS4.
However, the rumor says the NX will combine console and mobile gaming suggesting a portable game station. After the incredible success Pokémon Go had upon its release, many people think the company is going to continue using augmented reality.
According to some websites, Nintendo is going to throw a launching event during the first days of October. If that is true, it would be the perfect opporunity to present a new gaming console because it would fit with the calendar.
If the new amiibos are rolling out along with the game in March, the new console should be hitting the shelves a couple of months before. In fact, some people believe the NX could start shipping in December, so everything is ready in time.
