Xiaomi has unveiled its Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus smartphones. The duo will succeed the Mi 5 released earlier this year. The Chinese company’s new flagships are set to become Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus fiercest rivals yet.

Predecessor Mi 5’s showcasing at the Mobile World Congress 2016 was impressive. It was one of the first smartphones with the Snapdragon 820. However, the Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus will feature Qualcomm’s latest processor, the Snapdragon 821 SoC.

High-end capabilities combined with affordable prices is Xiaomi’s strategy to pose a serious challenge to Apple’s newest iPhone as well as other rival handsets like Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

Called the Apple of China, Xiaomi has set out to make life harder for the iPhone-maker. Its first laptop, the $750 Mi Notebook Air, is visually similar to Apple’s MacBook Air line but better and cheaper.

Xiaomi Mi 5s specs and iPhone 7 comparison

Powered by the Snapdragon 821 SoC, the Mi 5s comes in two different models. One has 3GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage. The packs 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

Both variants feature ultrasonic fingerprint scanner based on Qualcomm’s Sense ID technology. They also sport a 5.15-inch Full-HD display, a 12 MP rear camera, a 4 MP front camera, and a 3200mAh battery.

Direct competitor iPhone 7 only has 2GB of RAM, original 32GB of internal storage, and a 4.7-inch Retina HD display. The Mi 5s also outperforms the 1960 mAh battery found on Apple’s phone.

However, the iPhone’s A10 Fusion processor overpowers the Snapdragon 821 SoC on performance tests. It also champions a 7 MP front camera and offers 128 or 256GB of internal storage.
