Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (NASDAQ: phoneSSNLF) released the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge in March 2016. It comes with a curved screen as the company’s new headline trait.

The phone packs a different trendy look. It has a curved rear that makes it fit more comfortably in the hand. The smartphone also comes in three colors, black, silver and gold, whereas the S7 only comes in black

Samsung has established as the alpha-dog in the smartphone market around the world, and it seems the company is going to stay there for a good while. Critics and users have praised the Edge 7 as one of the best smartphones in the market right now.

Design and ports

On the surface, S7 Edge looks similar to its predecessor. Black metal rim protected by two foils of Corning Gorilla Glass 4, with a lock switch on the right rear and volume key buttons on the end. There is a flush camera sensor, heart rate monitor,  and the company’s logo on the back.

The sim tray was repositioned along the top and now shares the space with a microSD slot and a microphone. The bottom houses a 3.5mm audio port, another microphone, a speaker and a microUSB port for charging.

The front features a physical home button plus another Samsung banner. The screen has a fingerprint sensor as fast as any other top-gear sensor in the market.

Display details and specs

The screen is 5.5-inches with a display of super AMOLED quad-HD (2560×1440) with a density of 534 pixels per inch, a number that beats the iPhone 6S Plus and previous Galaxy models.

Internally,  a 1.6 GHz octa-core Exynos 8890 Octa processor powers the phone. Storage memory is 32 GB, with an expandable storage up to 256GB with microSD, and it has 4 GB RAM to open a lot of apps at the same time without problems.

The battery is a non-removable lithium-ion 3600 mAh battery, with the ability to last up to 98 hours without activity, 27 hours in 3G navigation and 74 hours playing music.

On the camera department, the phone has 12MP shooter  in the rear and a 5mp selfie cam.

Other features worth noting is that the phone packs dual sim, runs with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and of course, it’s water and dust resistant (IP68).

Price and promotions

The smartphone has a retail price that ranges between $720 and $795, depending on the carrier. Samsung also offers a free Gear VR along with a six-game bundle with the purchase of either the Galaxy S7 or the S7 Edge.

What’s more, for about $100 more and for a limited time, Samsung is selling S7 Edge to US customers along with a gift: a Smart Fitness Band Gear or a 256 GB microSD Memory Card.

As of August 2016, the promotion is still available on the official Samsung website.
