U.S. – Actor and musician Donald Glover landed his first prominent role in the movie industry. On Friday, Disney and Lucasfilm confirmed he would play the young Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo spinoff film of the Star Wars franchise.

The studio said on the official page, Starwars.com, Calrissian would show up “in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld.”

There is not a whole lot of information about the flick, other than it will explore a separate part of George Lucas’ Star Wars universe. The movie has no title yet, but it will premiere in May 2018.

Glover will join Alden Ehrenreich – the young Han Solo – in bringing to iconic characters back to the big screen. Before that, Rogue One will start Star Wars anthology series.

Donald Glover, A.K.A Childish Gambino, is a Grammy nominee

Fans may know Glover as Troy in Community sitcom or as rapper Childish Gambino. The 33-year-old artist is also the creator and lead star of FX’s new critically acclaimed dramedy “Atlanta.”

His career started very early. From 2006 to 2009, he was a writer for the NBC comedy series 30 Rock, where he had occasional cameo appearances. He won three television awards as part of the series writing staff.

Grammy Awards nominated Childish Gambino’s “Because the Internet” as best rap album in 2015, as well as best rap performance for 3005. The price finally went to Eminem’s “The Marshall Mathers LP 2” record, while Kendrick Lamar won best rap performance for “i[Explicit].”

As far as movies go, he has barely landed minor roles in Magic Mike XXL and The Martian. Now, he takes the mantle from actor Billy Dee Williams, the original Lando on the 1880 “The Empire Strikes Back” and 1983’s “Return of the Jedi.”

Donald Glover voiced Miles Morales in Ultimate Spiderman

Glover becomes another addition to the growing and diverse Star Wars’ ensemble of actors, most of them with little experience on action flicks.

However, the audience loves him. When Sony took on Spider-Man’s reboot, fans launched a campaign calling for him to play the iconic hero.

Though the role went to Andrew Garfield, Glover voiced Spider-Man-Miles Morales on Disney XD’s animated show, Ultimate Spiderman.

Tom Holland is starring as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in a story that takes the characters back to its high-school roots, but Donald Glover’s character is a secret.

The cast has been kept secret, and some of the actors include Michael Keaton as a villain, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, and Zendaya as the female lead.
