The Japanese developer Capcom has confirmed in an official statement the re-release of the original ‘Dead Rising’ for PC and current generation consoles. In their announcement, the company also revealed the re-release of ‘Dead Rising 2’ and ‘Dead Rising 2: Off the Record’ for Xbox One and PS4 only.
The news come as no surprise, for the return of the beloved title, was the subject of extensive speculation ever since rumors and details of a trophy list for ‘Dead Rising’ on PS4 were leaked online. Capcom’s statement rolls hot off the press as the tenth anniversary of ‘Dead Rising’s original release nears, as well as the launch date for the latest game in the series at the end of this year.
However, the iconic developer has left fans waiting for details of launch dates for the new ports of these titles.
Ten Years at Willamette
‘Dead Rising’ was originally released in August of 2006 for the Xbox 360. Frank West, the game’s main character, sees himself involved in a most peculiar situation at the fictional town of Willamette in Colorado.
As a photojournalist, West must investigate the origins of the zombie outbreak that strikes the Parkview Mall in a set timeframe that makes for a riveting experience.
Following its launch, the game was met with commercial success and critical acclaim for its innovative narrative and in-game mechanics. Two sequels of the survival horror game have been published since then: ‘Dead Rising 2’ and ‘Dead Rising 3’, released in 2010 and 2013 respectively.
Some alternative titles and spin-offs, including ‘Dead Rising 2: Off the Record’, have also been developed for various platforms after the positive reception of the ‘Dead Rising’ series by the gaming community. The fourth title in the series, ‘Dead Rising 4’, will bring Frank West back to Willamette during the holiday season and is appropriately scheduled for release on December 6, 2016.
What’s in stock for Capcom
The father of ‘Mega Man’, ‘Resident Evil’ and ‘Street Fighter’ is not one to stay behind in the race.
Last June at the E3, Capcom was featured as the developer of several upcoming releases, including not only ‘Dead Rising 4’ but also titles from beloved franchises such as ‘Resident Evil’ and the latest of ‘Monster Hunter’. With more events still to come this year in the gaming community, it is still unclear when we can expect news about launch dates for the ‘Dead Rising’ re-releases.
Nevertheless, let us always keep an eye on Capcom for they “will have more news to share soon”, as their statement said.
