On Wednesday, Activision and Sledgehammer Games revealed the first trailer for Call of Duty: World War II. The game franchise will release on November 3, when it will land with its latest title in Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
The game’s campaign will follow the Fighting First, a squad of American soldiers led by Ronald ‘Red’ Daniels. Together, they will have to assist and fight alongside their brothers in arms from other Ally forces in Europe near the end of the war.
Call of Duty as a franchise has focused on the most infamous armed conflict in contemporary history several times, most notoriously over the first three games. Details of COD: World War II are still scarce, but it promises to deliver a new perspective on the historical event.
Sledgehammer Games will tell a new WWII story
Upon release of the trailer on YouTube and several official outlets, co-founders and studio leaders Glen Schofield and Michael Condry sat down with PlayStation Blog to talk about the game.
Schofield gave some insights on COD: WWI’s protagonist, a soldier named after and based on his father, who died during production:
“THE STORY OF CALL OF DUTY: WWII FOLLOWS A GLOBAL AND DIVERSE CAST, BUT FOR ME IT HONORS MY FATHER RONALD “RED” DANIELS AND HIS SQUAD, AND NOT JUST WHAT THEY WENT THROUGH FROM A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE BUT PERSONALLY.”
What’s coming in Call of Duty: World War II
Aside from this kind gesture by the developers, they said the game would follow the Fighting First from 1944 to 1945, as the Allied campaign pushes through the last German bastions into the Nazi homeland.
The content creators said that, as is the tradition with other games of the franchise, Call of Duty: World War II will also have some flashbacks that touch on previous events set between 1940 and 1944.
Get ready because the American division will encounter the French Resistance in the battlefield at some point in the campaign. It is unknown if other Allies like the British will make an appearance like in previous games.

Two missions have been confirmed: Hürtgen Forest and Normandy. The first one takes place near the Belgian border with Germany, while the second one is perhaps one of the most famous stages in WWII history.
Call of Duty: World War II promises to deliver “a visceral audiovisual experience unlike any D-Day landing portrayed in a game to date.” The Hürtgen Forest Battle finished with the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge, so luckily players will get some of that epic winter action in following missions.
Other than that, the game will introduce a new feature called Headquarters. That will be a space in which players can meet before taking on multiplayer campaigns or matches so they can better plan their strategy.
Call of Duty: World War II launches on November 3 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Sony fans will get an exclusive chance to play a private beta before the official release at a yet unannounced date.
