Ford has come forward to reveal the newest installment of their Expedition SUV series. The 2018 model will come in two sizes, a Standard Edition and an XL looking to trample the Suburban and the luxury SUV market. The expected suggested retail price isĀ $48,000.
This 2018 Expedition will be Ford’s first effort on the lineup since approximately 2008. The truck has always met consistent numbers in sales, but this one might have to try a little harder.
Design-wise, the new Expedition looks exactly like Ford enthusiasts expect it too, and brings forth no surprises. Regarding its functioning, the American company will inject more horsepower into the SUV so it can go head-to-head with current market leaders.
Engine specs and build
The 2015 Expedition had a V8 engine that Ford later downgraded to a V6. The 2018 model stays with this motor but updates it to a variant that has both port and direct fuel injection. Technically speaking, the engine is a twin turbocharged3.5-liter EcoBoost.
The car’s transmission will come with a 10-speed automatic setting with Ford offering the rear-wheel drive as a standard and four-wheel drive for a higher price.
For the time being, Ford is silent about the exact specs for the V6 EcoBoost engine. However, the standard 2015 version offers 325 in horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque. The company promised it would raise these numbers.
Thanks to the enormous quantity of aluminum in its final build, the new Expedition will be about 300 pounds (137 Kg) lighter than its predecessor. The new design is complete with a new front end and a larger, more defined, rear finish.
Interior design and features
The 2018 Expedition will be able to hold eight passengers in total. The second and third seat rows can fold into the car’s floor to make the SUV a cargo vehicle with quite a lot of room. Customers who purchase the XL edition will get even more space.
The infotainment system now comes with a hands-free tailgate, wireless phone charging, a WiFi hotspot, four 12V power points, 110V outlet, and six USB ports. For driving, it will include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree camera system.
Customers will also be able to monitor their new Expeditions via an app called FordPass, that allows them to lock, unlock, and start the SUV remotely. The app is already available for both Android and iOS. The SYNC3 infotainment system also has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.
