Sony launched its PS4 during the last PlayStation Meeting in 2013

Sony (NASDAQ: SNE) might be ready to launch a new high-end PlayStation 4. According to an article in The Wall Street Journal, the company announced a news conference named ‘The PlayStation Meeting.’ It is reportedly taking place at The PlayStation Theater in New York. The event will start at 3:00 pm on September 7th.

This rumor has caused numerous game portals to speculate about the purpose of the meeting. Sites like Gamespot, Polygon, and Gamesradar, have stated the company would present an enhanced version of the PS4.

The new model goes by different codenames across the internet. Some sites call it “Neo,” while others refer to it as ‘PS4.5‘ or ‘PS4K

According to Polygon, a Sony representative confirmed a Livestream of the event. The spokesperson added the company would provide more information as the days go by.

On August 8th, initial reports from Vice Gaming and Gameblog suggested Sony was preparing to hold the PlayStation Meeting. The Japanese Conglomerate held an event with the same name to unveil the PS4 in February 2013.

Sony’s CEO confirmed a new console that supports 4K res

Andrew House, President and CEO of Sony Entertainment, stated the company was indeed developing a more robust model of the PS4.

Mr. House said the new console would be more expensive than its $350 predecessor, according to an interview with the Financial Times in June of this year.

The CEO said the new PS4 was being designed to work with 4K TV sets. However, he explained Sony didn’t want to rush the console’s launch. Mr. House said they wanted to ensure the console featured a wide variety of experiences before unveiling it.

Mr. House addressed concerns from developers, as some reports stated the PS4 Neo would force game makers to launch two versions of a title.

“ALL GAMES WILL SUPPORT THE STANDART PS4, AND WE ANTICIPATE ALL OR A VERY LARGE MAJORITY OF GAMES WILL ALSO SUPPORT THE HIGH-END PS4,” he said during the interview.

There are new rumors talking about the PS4 Slim and a PS VR Bundle

Gamesradar suggested the arrival of a redesigned version of the PS4 Slim could be part of the PlayStation Meeting.

The site has reported numerous leaks regarding the console over the past months. The PS4 Slim would come with a new front-facing light bar, a revised DualShock controller, and no optical audio port.

The site also reported Sony might reveal a PlayStation VR PS4 bundle with the console, including controllers, headset, and camera. This offer would provide the VR gadget its first high-end entrance to the PlayStation world.
