Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (NASDAQ: mobile standaloneSSNLF) completed Samsung’s S Gear S collection with an all-new Gear S3. Gear S3 merges traditional standalone mobile technology, while the in-built hardware adds fitness-tracker advantages.

The S3 smartwatch comes in two versions: the Gear S3 frontier and the Gear S3 classic. Both sets have a lavish compact body. They look and feel just like a traditional luxurious watch.

The digital screen allows users to change the looks of their Watch’s screen with several options included.  Owners can further personalize the device with the included 22-millimeter bands to interchange and fit their preferences.

Gear S3 runs on OSes, Samsung’s  operative system for wearable devices. Users can download apps and watch faces directly from the Gear S3.

Gear S3 specs and features

S3 houses several sensors to support user’s lifestyles. It includes a GPS, an altimeter, barometer, and speedometer. With this features, owners could measure altitudes during a bike hike or a mountain trail; forecast whether changes; check how fast they run, or even send notifications about their locations to family members.

The new Samsung smartwatches work perfectly fine with the Galaxy S7 or the Galaxy Note 7, but what makes them unique is their ability to function as stand-alone products.

Users can easily manage them smoothly because of the optimized bezel and buttons. The bezel works like a wheel to dial the watch widgets and tools.

The Gear S3 supports 3G while the Frontier version has LTE. The devices also have a built-in speaker and microphone so that people can make calls right from the wrist. Whether the user calls from a smartphone or the watch, the receiver will see the same number.

S3’s connectivity can even support music apps like Spotify. Users could also enjoy their playlist on the device’s music player. Additionally, there are enhanced fitness features on the S Health app. The program lets users set a variety of workouts routines.

Last two important features are the “reminder” function to keep track of small day-to-day tasks, and a 16 million color Always on Display AMOLED 360X360  1.3-inch screen.

Samsung’s S3 Gear is always ready for emergencies. With three taps the watch sends an SOS call to the user’s emergency contact, along with the current location in real time.

Samsung pay comes included, and it should work on most credit card terminals.

Samsung will release the Gear S3 later this year, but there is not an official price yet

Samsung gave extra attention to accentuate the bezel, buttons, and overall hardware giving the device a sturdy and refined look without compromising functionality.  More so, the Gear S3 follows recent trends in watch design, from the physical dimensions to the looks itself. The watch is 46mm long, 3 mm bigger than the previous Gear S2.

Samsung equipped the smartwatch with a Gorilla Glass SP+ display to provide scratch resistance. It is also water, dust, and cold resistant.

On a final note, a 380mAh powers the smartwatch. It has an average usage of three to four days. A 15-minute charge equals ten hours of wear time. In the most extreme of the cases, the S3 will work as a regular digital watch up to ten hours when on power saving mode, with only five percent of the battery.

The models will launch later this year. Samsung has not specified the price yet.
