Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will roll out soon. On the other hand, the iPhone 8 is not coming out until Septembre. This year is iPhone’s tenth anniversary and its time to analyze the biggest smartphone rivalry.

Samsung will likely continue with the curved display introduced with the S7.  It became a Samsung’s signature on the latest generation. The new design also gives a stylized look to the phone.

Later this year Apple will release the iPhone 8 or “iPhone X”. The big question is whether or not it will have a curved design. The iPhone 8 is expected to bring many high-end features in its special anniversary.

According to Japan’s biggest business daily, Nikkei, iPhone 8 will roll out with a curved design.  “The curve will be gentler than screens in Samsung’s Galaxy S7 Edge handsets,” the report said, citing a source familiar with the phone’s design.

IHS Markit’s analyst, Wayne Lam, confirmed that Apple is using AMOLED for its iPhone. He is uncertain how the phone will look like, though.  AMOLED tech is the same tech used by Samsung to produce its Samsung S7. Apple still uses conventional liquid crystal displays on its phones.

Samsung is one of Apple’s major components suppliers

Samsung is in a privileged position when it comes to predicting Apple’s designs. As a component supplier and developer Samsung can know beforehand what is Apple’s next move.

According to South Korea’s The Investor Samsung is developing a new pressure sensitive OLED touch display for the iPhone 8. The next iPhone will use a new 3D touch developed by Samsung. Samsung is expected to use this same technology in its smartphones

“The latest technology boasts higher sensitivity and a wider range of pressure-sensing levels compared to the previous one used in Huawei’s P9 in 2015,” claimed The Investor.
