The Paris Motor Show 2016 ends on October 16, but attendees have already taken a glance at all the new material. Big brands such as Bentley, BMW, Porsche, Opel, Fiat, Isuzu and several others have showcased their latest models.
Volkswagen revealed its impressive new electric concept car, while Mercedes unveiled a group of models including the EV, AMG GLC43 Coupe, GLC350e Coupe, AMG GT and the GT C Roadster.
Porsche’s Panamera hybrid variant, and Audi’s A5 Sportback and the S5 Sportback have also been standouts. Other carmakers present at the event include Alfa Romeo, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Jeep, Mitsubishi, and Toyota.
However, a Land Rover, Volkswagen, Green Lord Motors, and two Ferraris make up the five top cars turning heads at one of the most important auto shows in the world. The list takes into account the show’s central focus on electric vehicles.
Ferrari duo LaFerrari Aperta and GTC4Lusso T
Aperta means “open” in English and perfectly suits the convertible version of the LaFerrari hybrid supercar. The roofless vehicle has the same 949 horsepower powertrain as its 2013 predecessor. Its 6.3-liter V12 engine is the strongest ever used in a Ferrari road car.
The luxury sports car goes from zero to 60 mph in less than three seconds and has a top speed of 217 mph. The new LaFerrari is as fast as the last one.
More impressive is the fact that all the 200 Apertas produced sold out in July, two months before its Paris Motor Show debut. Ferrari manufactured another nine, but they are currently not for sale. The 2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta costs $2.2 million.
Meanwhile, the Italian sports car manufacturer also introduced a super-fast family car designed for practical daily use. The new GTC4Lusso T features a V8 engine instead of the V12 in the GTC4Lusso.
The family Ferrari goes from zero to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds thanks to its 602 horsepower and has a 199 mph top speed. The GTC4Lusso T will have a $260,000 price tag, $40,000 less than the V12 GTC4Lusso.
Japan’s newcomer Green Lord Motors and Volkswagen unveiled fully electric cars
Founded in 2010, Green Lord Motors (GLM) has nothing to envy from more experienced automakers. The specs of its newest concept car have created an enormous amount of expectation. GLM claims the G4 model will go from zero to 62mph in 3.7 seconds.
Not bad for a fully electric vehicle. It will sport a battery power of 400kW, 1000 Nm torque, a top speed of 155mph, and a battery range of 248 miles. Since the G4 is a concept car, it does not have a production date or price available.
Looking to leave its diesel emission scandal in the past, Volkswagen has unveiled a fully electric concept car, too. The VW I.D. is a five-door hatchback with a range of over 372 miles.
According to the German automaker, the vehicle will reach between 248 and 372 miles on a single charge. The 167-horsepower electric motor is capable of recharging to full power in 15 minutes. Volkswagen expects to launch it to the market in 2020, a year before new European regulations concerning carbon dioxide emissions.
Land Rover introduced a huge family SUV
After 12 years without innovation, Land Rover completely redesigned its Discovery brand. The result was a huge family SUV that can fit seven adults in three rows. Another wow factor is that owners can remotely rearrange the seats via a smartphone app whether they are inside or outside the vehicle. All that in 14 seconds.
The Discovery even makes easier to get in and out as its suspension automatically lowers the SUV 1.5 inches. It also sports six charging points, places to store iPads, nine USB ports, and a 4G WiFi hotspot for up to eight devices.
Land Rover’s Discovery comes in 3.0-liter gasoline V6 or 3.0-liter diesel V6 versions. The former produces 340 horsepower and torque up to 332 lb-ft, while the latter offers 443 lb-ft of torque and 254 horsepower.
The third-generation Land Rover Discovery, also known as Discovery 5, will launch in the United States in mid-2017 with a $50,985 price tag.
