Arrival” got nearly 2 million views on YouTube in less than 20 hours with the new trailer since it was released on August 16. The sci-fi thriller preview starring Amy Adams, Forest Whitaker, and Jeremy Renner has been getting tons of views.

The film is not the usual alien invasion flick. The plot swirls around Adam’s character, Louise Blank, a “priority one” asset of the US government. Her mission is to communicate with living things that landed all over the world, and now, are trapped into mysterious pods.

She leads a group of investigators that must prevent a war against the unknown invaders. The key is to understand the language of the new species, a task that may prove to be hard and dangerous for humankind.

It might not be the first time a group of researchers defeats aliens – a theme Jeff Goldblum brought to mainstream in Independence Day- but it brings an intense storyline that blends perfectly with the suspense and sci-fi elements of the movie.

Arrival counts with a nominal cast

Paramount Pictures is the house bringing ‘Arrival,’ and Denis Villeneuve directed it. The filmmaker is well versed in the suspense genre. His most famous movies are ‘Prisoners’ (2013) and ‘Sicario’ (2015), and Rotten Tomatoes gave a high score to both of them. Villeneuve is also in charge of the upcoming ‘Blade Runner’ movie, so it would be safe to say he can handle thrillers.

Screenwriter Eric Heisserer (2011’s The Thing) wrote the script, which is based on the 1988’s novel “Story of your Life” by American sci-fi writer Ted Chiang. It’s also worth noting recent papers of the leading actors. Amy Adams latest role is DC’s Louise Lane, and the actress interprets a woman who has contact with alien beings, again.

Academy Award winner, Forest Whitaker, played as ‘Tick Wills’ in the boxing drama, ‘Southpaw.’ He is also starring as the human rebel ‘Saw Guerrera’ in ‘Rogue One: a Star Wars Story.’

Last but not least is Jeremy Renner, who has played several companion roles in running action franchises: Marvel Avenger’s Hawkeye; agent Aaron Cross in the Bourne sequel; and agent William Brandt in Mission Impossible.

The movie also has an amazing poster

“Arrival” might be the movie to make up for a year shortcoming on the sci-fi genre. The most obvious competition is ‘Independence Day: Resurgence,’ and Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 32 which is poor at best.

There is also ‘Star Trek: Beyond’ which is doing quite better (84% on the site) but is getting a mid-range and disappointing performance at the box office. The same is to say about Ghostbusters reboot, a movie that has been criticized heavily by fans of the series.

The movie will debut at the Venice Film Festival on September 2 before arriving the US theaters on November 11.
