Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) has put its Microsoft Surface Pro 4 on sale at the Microsoft Store. Its price cut may be motivated by the new Surface devices coming up by the end of this year or in 2017, including the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2.

Rumors say Microsoft will announce its latest Surface devices in October. Several leakers and tipsters have already gathered information about the specifications of the Pro 5 and Book 2. If launched next year, the devices will coincide with the release of the Redstone 2 update for Windows 10.

The Surface Pro 4 will stay on sale until September 6. The deal doesn’t include the Surface Touch Covers. It’s not the first time the tablet computer gets a discount price. Earlier last month it got a $150 price drop as well, and during the final week of August, an eBay seller also placed it on sale.

Microsoft Surface is a series of Windows-based personal computing devices designed and manufactured by Microsoft. It comprises hybrid tablets, 2-in-1 detachable, and interactive whiteboards.

Its first generation devices got introduced in 2012. The Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book, both released in 2015, are its most recent models. Microsoft also began shipping Surface Hub devices last March.

Surface Pro 4 specs and price

The fourth-generation Surface-series 2-in-1 detachable is currently on sale at the Microsoft Store. Formerly at $899, the Surface Pro 4 is now being sold for just $749. The tablet computer features an Intel m3 processor, 128 GB storage, and 4GB RAM.

An update over its predecessor, the Pro 4 has more power-efficient and powerful CPUs than the Surface Pro 3 as well as more RAM and SSD capacity. It also sports a slightly bigger display with a higher resolution and a better-cooled chassis. At the same time, the device is backward compatible with all accessories of its predecessor.

On the downside, the Type Cover is still a separate purchase, while the Intel Core m3 chip’s modest performance and short battery life don’t allow the Surface Pro 4 to be a laptop replacement.

Surface Pro 5 and Book 2 rumored specs and release date

The Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 will run the upcoming Windows update called Redstone 2, and will champion the 7th generation Intel Kaby Lake processor which is due to be available later this year.

The inclusion of two USB 3.1 ports with Type C connectors on the Pro 5 and Book 2 would allow the elimination of the magnetic charger on previous Surface models. The Pro 5 is also rumored to sport an AMD or NVIDIA graphic chip, and work naturally with the Surface Pen.

Both devices will hit stores in late 2016 or early 2017. Supposedly, Microsoft is waiting for the release of the Intel Kaby Lake and Windows 10 Redstone 2 before launching the Pro 5 and Book 2.
