On Wednesday, the automotive startup Faraday Future released a teaser video on social media featuring its upcoming electric car. The vehicle would be the company’s first, and it is expected to debut in January 2017 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

The trailer for the new Faraday Future car follows a previous video posted just two weeks ago. The company first hinted at a silent engine technology in the electric vehicle, and now it seems like it will ‘reinvent the wheel,’ whatever that means.

Faraday Future has its manufacturing plant in the state Nevada, but its primary financial support comes from LeEco, a multibillion-dollar Chinese company. The automaker has produced no car so far, unveiling only concept vehicles like the FFZERO1 racer at CES 2016.

Faraday Future’s electric car will feature its Vehicle Platform Architecture (VPA)

People know close to nothing about Faraday Future’s upcoming electric car, but if one thing is certain it is that it will be built around the company’s signature Vehicle Platform Architecture (VPA).

Faraday Future’s VPA itself relies on the automaker’s revolutionary battery technology. Faraday has developed its sources of electric power into modules, which then can be arranged and configured into modules depending on the car.

With this in mind, Faraday Future’s vehicles will all be, presumably, built using the same frame. The only modifications necessary will be regarding power performance, making space for more or fewer battery modules as needed.

Faraday Future will unveil its new electric car at CES 2017

Faraday Future first started as an automotive back in 2014, when it said it had already multiple projects under development and that it would soon break into the consumer market.

Experts deemed the potential Faraday Future cars as ‘Tesla-killers’ at one point since they counted with backing from the Chinese company LeEco and their proposals were truly revolutionary.

However, the company has so far presented only a concept for a racing car, the FFZERO1 at CES 2016. The vehicle, albeit impressive, remains just a design and it has yet to enter production.

Faraday Future’s upcoming electric car is apparently the startup’s first model for the consumer market as well. From the teaser videos, the vehicle resembles Tesla’s Model X, and it could even be an SUV.

Further hints taken from the trailers show that the Faraday Future car may also have some form of self-driving or driving assistance technology. The vehicle seems to have a camera and sensor setup on the front, distinctive of cars with these systems equipped.

Reports from several sources claim Faraday Future will unveil its electric car at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 in January. The automaker will probably release more teaser videos as the date draws near so we get a closer look at the car before the official launch.
