Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC Corporation launched its new device, the HTC 10, to the market last May with a $699 starting price. But customers can get it at a $100 discount on the company’s website until August 31. HTC also revealed two new colors (red and gold) for its new flagship smartphone.
The Android smartphone, manufactured and marketed by HTC, was announced back in April. Its predecessor, the HTC One A9, was launched to address the criticism on the design of previous effort HTC One M9, too similar to the HTC One (M8). The new HTC 10 is a mix of the M9 and the A9.
HTC 10 specs, features, and cons
The hardware of the HTC 10 features an aluminum body with a unibody design. The dual front-facing audio speakers from previous HTC smartphones (like the HTC One M9) are no longer. But it still has two speakers; one in the top and one in the bottom of the phone.
It includes a fingerprint sensor under the 5.2-inch SuperLCD5 1,440 x 2,560 pixels Gorilla Glass 4 screen. It sports a 12MP primary camera with F/1.8, ultra pixel sensor, OIS, autofocus and dual-tone LED flash. Plus, it has a 5MP front camera, first ever with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).
As with other HTC flagships, the HTC 10 comes with quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, dual-core 2.15 GHz Kyro and dual-core 1.6 GHz Kyro with Adreno 530.
Owners will also get 4GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of expandable storage, and an additional 2TB via microSD slot. It champions USB Type-C, Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0., and a fast charging 3,000mAh battery.
In regards to the software, the HTC 10 natively runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the HTC Sense UI 8.0 skin. It will update to the upcoming Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, which rumors say could be released today.
The 10 model has its cons too with the main being not having dust or water-proofing technology and IR-blaster not included as before. Additionally, the smartphone is thicker and heavier than most rivals, and its starting price isn’t competitive, which is the reason behind the current discount.
New colors available
When revealed, HTC also showed off red version of the 10. It was meant to be a Japanese exclusive but on Sunday the company made the red HTC 10 available in the U.S. along with a gold-colored version.
Customers can pre-order the HTC 10 in Camellia Red or Topaz Gold on HTC’s site with a shipping date of early October. The discount mentioned above covers these versions. HTC also offers a pair of JBL noise-cancelling headphones for $100 more (instead of $199) for a $699 total. Carbon Grey and Glacier Silver are other colors clients can choose.
