Classic Nintendo games that could emulate Pokemon Go’s success

After years of suggestions from gamers and investors alike for Nintendo to get into mobile gaming, the Japanese company hit out of the park with cultural phenomenon Pokemon Go. Now Nintendo could follow up that home run with new mobile projects involving other of its classic video games like Paper Mario or The Legend of Zelda to Augmented Reality.

Pokemon Snap

If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Nintendo could play it safe and make a sequel to Pokemon Go. Pokemon Snap could mirror both its predecessor and Instagram’s success. Instead of catching them all it could be photograph them all.

Like in Snap people could search for Pokemon and take cool photos of them for memory lane or even print stickers of the images at home with the printer. For those too lazy to look for Pokemon, Nintendo could map out safari zones in public areas.

Paper Mario

Knowing that Mario is almost like the team’s mascot, and flagship product, of Nintendo, launching a mobile game featuring the world’s most famous plumber should be next. Precise action games like Super Mario Bros., however, are not a good suit for phones and monetizing them would be another problem.

But Paper Mario could be a perfect match, though. Less action means better mobile adjustment and Paper Mario fits the description. Plus, Nintendo could introduce buyable digital cards, like Hearthstone and Clash Royale have done, that allow Paper Mario to fight for coins.

The Legend of Zelda

Pokemon Go’s success comes from the thrill to search, discover, and adventure into the unknown, much like the first Legend of Zelda game. As opposed to its later sequels that have become more focused on dungeons and puzzles, Link was initially on a quest to explore and discover what secrets the countryside and caves nearby were hiding.

Nintendo could design a map full of treasures, monsters to slay and even dungeons for players to solve puzzles under a time limit. Players could be rewarded by others if they choose to leave helpful tips for finding secret areas or solving puzzles.

Nintendogs

The last Nintendogs came out more than five years ago, but digital pets have always been a boom since the appearance of the Tamagotchi. People could have augmented reality dogs running around without cleaning any mess and teaching them tricks with voice commands, while Nintendo could sell infinite cute accessories, toys and maybe even digital food for the dogs.

Other possible games and Nintendo’s next project

Directly inspired by widely popular Duck Hunt, games like Deer Hunter are already big hits in mobile gaming, so why not go old school and hunt ducks like in NES. Nintendo could also try releasing microgames like the ones available in Wario Ware and NES Remix, where players can choose their favorite classic characters to complete quick challenges in particular parts of broader maps instead of playing an entire Mario title for example.

But while all of the suggestions above are just that, Nintendo officially announced one game that will certainly get its mobile debut. Life sim title Animal Crossing will be Nintendo’s next mobile project.
