LG revealed the G6 at the Mobile World Congress 2017 today, and it will start releasing the handset on March 9 in Korea and April in the United States. The company did not confirm the launch schedule for Europe, but news outlets expect to see the smartphone in British shelves by Aprill too.
Most tech fans praised LG for launching the G5 last year. It seemed a smartphone manufacturer had finally listened to the customers and launched a modular handset. However, it didn’t have the commercial success the company expected.
So, LG decided to go back to a conventional aluminum handset design with the G6. In fact, its battery is non-removable which, among other things, sets an abyss between the new device and its predecessor.
LG G6 Specifications
The LG G6 has a Snapdragon 821CPU and an Adreno 530 GPU. It also has 4GB RAM, so the new smartphone’s performance could compete with those of the iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy Edge 7. Even though the 821 is not the latest Qualcomm chip, this quad-core processor is more than enough to handle
Even though the 821 is not the latest Qualcomm chip, this quad-core processor is good enough to run most popular games and apps. Besides, LG has had a lot of time to shape the device around the chip which is vital.
The handset has two storage configurations: 34 and 64 GB. Customers can expand it up to 256GB with MicroSD. There is also a dual-SIM version, but most experts think it will be exclusive to the Asian market.
The LG G6 will run on Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box which tells a lot about the relationship between the manufacturer and Google. It will be available in Mystic White, Astro Black, and Ice Platinum. So far, LG has not issued an official MSRP.
Pros and cons of the new LG handset
The G6 looks great based on the specifications. It has an aluminum body with a Gorilla Glass 5 back panel and Gorilla Glass 3 on the front. It’s about 15 cm tall, 8 cm wide, and it weighs 163 g.
Despite its practical size, the 5,7 inches smartphone has a 78.6% screen-to-body ratio, and it supports 1440 x 2880p resolutions. The screen reacts to the luminosity of the environment, so users will be able to see whatever is on the screen regardless sunlight.
The G6 has two 13MP rear cameras that can record 2160p videos at 60 fps. The front 5MP snapper supports full HD (1080p) making it perfect for video calls. The handset has two mics, a 3.5mm jack, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
A non-removable Li-Ion 3300 mAh battery powers the device. So, not only the G6 has a set of luxury features but should be able to function for long periods without recharging. Moreover, it supports fast and wireless charging (The latter will be a US exclusive).

The spec sheet looks solid, and it shows a solid mid-range handset with a couple of luxury features. However, there are some things potential customers should have in mind before purchasing LG’s newest smartphone.
There are going to be at least four different versions of the device, and they will have different features according to the region. For example, the Korean version will support high-quality audio, but it will not have wireless charging.
The non-removable battery is another important factor, especially for fans of the brand. The G5, being a modular phone, let users replace batteries. So, they could opt “0 to 100%” charge by replacing the power supply. Without that option, energy management is going to be crucial for G6 users.
The G6 is not the company’s high-end flagship which partly explains why it does not have the Snapdragon 835. However, it has a lot of cool features which means it could be a little pricey. Recognized outlets expect the phone to break the €530 break.
All in all, the newest LG smartphone has drawn a lot of well-earned attention. Even though the company dropped the modular design that has so many fans, the G6 looks like a solid Android phone for people who don’t like the Galaxy S7 Edge or Google’s Pixel.
