A great pickup truck is about to hit the roads of the U.S. The American truck automaker General Motors Truck Company (GMC) revealed this Monday the latest model on its heavy duty X series: the 2017 Sierra HD All Terrain X. The off-road pickup will bring several enhancements to the vehicle lineup previously seen in other cars of the brand.
The announcement by GMC follows a recent automotive trend that saw a spike in the luxury SUV market. Manufacturers like Mercedes, Land Rover, Jeep, and more have unveiled or announced plans to release high-end vehicles for a very select range of consumers.
As for GMC, the new Sierra HD All Terrain X is not by any means a car devised with luxury in mind. Revealed at the heart of the U.S. in Austin, Texas, the robust pickup truck will be on sale at the beginning of 2017 as a year model and pricing remains to be announced by the General Motors division.
2017 Sierra HD All Terrain X: Specs and Features
Potential buyers of the 2017 Sierra HD All Terrain X should know that the upcoming pickup truck is not an entirely new model, but more like a beastly overhaul to get top-of-the-line performance from already existing vehicles.
As such, the All Terrain X package is a group of features added to GMC crew cabin trucks that add more power and off-road capabilities. The Sierra 2500HD is the latest of the car family to get the All Terrain X treatment, completing a trio with the Canyon and Sierra 1500. Both of the models mentioned above are older and smaller than the Sierra HD.
The automaker will offer the Sierra HD All Terrain X prominently in Black Onyx, complete with door handles and other car parts to match the body color. The second alternative in Summit White is also available.
Under the hood, there will also be two options: a gas-powered 6.0-liter V-8 engine or the company’s now signature Duramax 6.6-liter V-8, which runs on diesel fuel. The second option offers 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque certified by the SAE.
The Sierra HD All Terrain X gains off-road capabilities thanks to its 18-inch Goodyear Duratrac tires for better grip in hard terrains. The front grille and the whole underbody were reinforced, adding side steps for easier access to the car. The automaker also packs the crew cab with LED off-road lamps for better visibility and Hill Descent Control.
Duncan Aldred, VP of Sales at Marketing at GMC, expressed the company’s pride on the upcoming vehicle.
“THE NEW SIERRA HD ALL TERRAIN X’S POWERFUL ATTITUDE REFLECTS A POPULAR TRENDS IN VERY CAPABLE OFF-ROAD TRUCKS, EXECUTED WITH A RANGE-TOPPING LEVEL OF REFINEMENT — A COMBINATION OF ATTRIBUTES GMC HAS CULTIVATED FOR YEARS,” he said.
GMC representatives claimed that the 2017 Sierra HD All Terrain X would hit the local market early next year, but gave no word on how much it would cost. Based on estimates from vehicles in the same family, the starting price of the crew cab should be above the $40,000 mark.
