The Mishima saga ends with the release of Tekken 7 on June 2

The seventh installment in the acclaimed fighting video game series Tekken will come out for the PlayStation 4 on June 2, according to an official blog post.

The piece reads Tekken will keep its signature battle system but will improve upon graphics with a photorealistic design.

Game mechanics will also change by bringing in new fighting features and characters.

The ‘Tekken’ (‘Iron Fist’ in Japanese) franchise first came out as an arcade game in 1994. Its main developer, Seiichi Ishii, only worked on the first two chapters. ‘Tekken’ is the property of Bandai Namco Entertainment, only called Namco in its early days.

Tekken 7, says the article, will be the closing chapter in the Mishima family epic. The game will apparently uncover many of the mysteries left behind by previous installments, including the origin of the Devil Gene and possibly the death of Kazuya Mishima’s mother.

To finally find out about these matters, players will have to fight their way through the classic one-on-one match Story Mode. Tekken 7 brings back the franchise’s most beloved characters and even introduces Street Fighter’s ‘Akuma’ as a playable guest choice.

Along with Akuma, TK7 sports a new feature called the ‘Rage System’ which activates when the player’s life bar is about to run out. Once a fighter enters the ‘Rage’ mode, they will deal more damage and have access to the ‘Rage Drive’ and ‘Rage Art’ moves.

The ‘Rage Art,’ says the article, is a ‘super-powered armored attack’ that works as a last resort for players about to lose the match. The ‘Rage Drive’ is a lesser version.

Aside from these two, Tekken 7 includes the ‘Power Crush’ which might leave a player defenseless but can turn the tide of a battle if used correctly.

A special Collector’s Edition including a 12″ by 18″ action figure of Kazuya and Heihachi fighting will also ship with the game’s release. The bundle will also come with a collectible Steel Book and the original Tekken 7 soundtrack.

Players who pre-order the game before its available will receive a Season Pass that will grant them three content packs. They might win access to new characters, stages, game modes, and a Metallic Costume Pack with 35 different options.

Tekken 7 will also include a Jukebox mode where players can create their personal playlists with music from previous chapters of the series. Other rumors point out to a possible integration with PlayStation VR, but this is currently unconfirmed.
