On Wednesday, the CFO of Electronic Arts, Blake Jorgensen, announced the studio would not work on the ‘Battlefield’ series for some time, focusing on releasing a new ‘Star Wars Battlefront’ title next year instead.

Jorgensen dropped the news at the Nasdaq 35th Investor Program event in London, England.

The executive added the upcoming ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ game will feature some content based on the new films of the franchise.

2015’s ‘Star Wars Battlefront’ was nominated in the Best Shooter category of The Game Awards in that year’s edition.

Electronic Arts will let the ‘Battlefield’ franchise rest for a couple of years

The chief financial officer of the successful video game studio said they would not launch another ‘Battlefield’ title at least for a couple of years. He did not specify if this meant fiscal or actual years.

EA released ‘Battlefield 1’ a little over a month ago now, and both fans and critics received it with overwhelmingly positive reviews. 1918, the peak of World War I action, serves as the setting for the latest ‘Battlefield’ game.

Most gamers are satisfied with the campaign mode and multiplayer experience that ‘Battlefield 1’ offers. They all expect EA to release several DLC packs for the game in the coming years since we will not be seen another installment in the series soon.

Will EA listen to its community?

Star Wars Battlefront was overall well received, but some people criticized it for its superficial content and lack of features in its different gameplay modes.

‘Star Wars Battlefront’ recently turned one year old since EA launched the game back in November 2015 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

The release of the game coincided with the premiere of the first film of the new trilogy, ‘Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.’

Fans immediately voiced their disappointment at EA for not including missions featured in the movie nor the prequels.

However, franchise enthusiasts found a new hope during Jorgensen’s address. The CFO said the new title would not only answer to criticisms to the last title but also that it would feature content from the new films.

“We’re taking that criticism to heart as we build the next game and trying to address any of the issues that they had,” he said. “Next year we’ll have the opportunity to leverage more of that content from the new movies and we think that’ll make the opportunity much larger,” Jorgensen added.

‘Star Wars Battlefront’ will release two DLC packs based on the upcoming film ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.’

Price and release date

The first one is a standard mission set on the timeframe of the movie, and the second one is an ‘X-Wing VR Mission’ that uses the PlayStation VR headset.

The ‘Rogue One: Scarif’ DLC will be available this December for owners of the ‘Star Wars Battlefront’ in-game Season Pass ($29.99). The VR mission will be free for all PS4 and PSVR owners.
