Why did hackers pick on Hillary Clinton during the campaign?

On November 8, Donald Trump won over Hillary Clinton with a difference of over 50 Electoral votes also winning the U.S. House and Senate majority.

The race was tight in its early stages, but as results from across the nation started coming in, it became evident that Trump was on track to become the Leader of the Free World. Trump won nearly every swing state this election cycle.

Disillusioned supporters and passionate detractors bashed the Democratic Candidate for running a campaign that gave the White House back to the Republicans.

Tougher critics of Clinton like Anonymous and Wikileaks have also expressed their affinity to the U.S. Elections results, but to the general public, their reasons may not be apparent.

So, why was Hillary Clinton the subject of cyber-attack campaigns from organizations like Anonymous and Wikileaks in the first place?

Are Julian Assange and Wikileaks against Hillary Clinton?

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange posted an article on the official site on the Election Day to remind people Wikileaks’ seemingly anti-Clinton agenda was not such and that it was fueled by core values of the rogue cyber journalism organization.

“The right to receive and impart true information is the guiding principle of WikiLeaks – an organization that has a staff and organizational mission far beyond myself,” Assange said. “Our organization defends the public’s right to be informed,” he added.

Back in early 2015, investigations carried out by the U.S. House Select Committee on Benghazi revealed Clinton and her campaign staff had engaged in malpractices that did not follow security protocols of the State Department.

These activities included using vulnerable devices like BlackBerry devices for personal communications, as well as Clinton infamously using her unprotected home server to access and use her email account.

What do the DNC leaked emails say about Clinton’s campaign staff?

Hillary Clinton’s poor email security left an extensive archive of her personal emails accessible to anyone with decent hacking abilities, and organizations like Anonymous and other presumed Russian hacking groups seized the opportunity.

What they found was not only compromising information of how Clinton and her staff managed State affairs but also revealing details of the Clinton Foundation’s ties to external influences.

Over the course of the year and more intensely in recent months, Wikileaks and Anonymous have leaked several batches of emails from Clinton herself and top aides like Huma Abedin, Anthony Weiner, and John Podesta.

Cross-referencing this electronic correspondence has revealed the Clinton Foundation accepted contributions from donors with different interests so that the ex-First Lady of the U.S. complied with them through all means available to her.

Moreover, uncertain conjectures arose following the arrest of nearly 250 people involved in a child sex trafficking ring in the U.S. Speculation online has linked some members of the Clinton staff to the pedophilic ring based on their emails.

Did the DNC rig the primaries to favor Hillary Clinton?

If this was not enough, Wikileaks released a huge batch of 20,000 emails from the Democratic National Committee last summer to prove party officials favored Clinton over Bernie Sanders during the primaries.

Even before voters cast their ballots, top representatives from the DNC including Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz openly expressed their allegiance to Clinton and disdain for Sanders on the emails.

The documents show how even debates between the two Democratic Candidates were rigged.

Moderators and media personalities involved in the discussions between Clinton and Sanders passed their questions through the DNC filter beforehand and even asked what they could ask to portrait the Vermont Senator as a communist.

So, why the independent press only covered Hillary Clinton’s secrets?

Clinton supporters have been harsh critics of organizations like Wikileaks for their apparent bias against the former Democratic Candidate, accusing the site of having an agenda or even supporting Trump in his quest for the presidency.

However, Julian Assange has assured that was not the case and that the only commitment he and Wikileaks have is with the truth.

“At the same time, we cannot publish what we do not have. To date, we have not received information on Donald Trump’s campaign, or Jill Stein’s campaign, or Gary Johnson’s campaign or any of the other candidates that fulfill our stated editorial criteria,” he said in a blog post.

All in all, Donald Trump is the next President of the United States and Hillary Clinton could face the consequences for her wrongdoings during her tenure as Secretary of State.

Clinton recently conceded the Presidential Elections to Donald Trump after a clear victory, also following a conciliatory speech from Trump. The future of the former Democratic Candidate remains uncertain.
