The next season of The Walking Dead is coming closer to its world premiere this October 24th. TWD’s seventh season will provide answers to the cliffhangers from the last season’s finale episode. It will also expand the current number of survivors to the zombie apocalypse with unusual names.
People who got left behind or newcomers to the series can catch up thanks a marathon airing on FX. This particular event is titled The Walking Dead: Journey So Far. AMC’s two-hour special is going to show all the main events of the series, since the first season. TWD’s special will be aired on October 16 at 9 p.m. on AMC, just a week before the premiere of the new season.
The last season of the Walking Dead focused on the various battles for power among the remaining survivors in the post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies. So far in TWD’s sixth season, fans have known many adversaries for the main cast, Rick Grimes, Daryl Nixon, Michonne, Carl, Gleen, Maggie, and Carol.
Since the latest opponent for Rick and his group (Terminus), there have been new encounters, featuring other ‘villains.’ For starters, Negan, who made his first appearance on the last episode of the sixth season, and performed one of the biggest cliffhangers of the series.
The Walking Dead’s new season will open up with Negan in the batter’s position, as he promises to beat one member of Rick’s group in front of everybody. Nonetheless, Negan won’t be the only reveal character of the new season for AMC’s top show.
King Ezekiel’s grand entrance
Opening the list of newcomers is King Ezekiel. He features heavily on the latest trailers of the 7th season. He is an African American character with dreadlocks and militaristic gear. Ezekiel introduces himself as the king of a colony of survivors.
Before the crisis, he was a zookeeper which guarded the exotic exhibit. When the crisis started, he managed to survive with the help of a tiger called Shiva. She serves as Ezekiel personal pet and bodyguard in the both the comic and the series.
Ezekiel rules over The Kingdom. A colony established at a local school with a tight security and a particular dictatorial system. Everyone looks up to Ezekiel and are much closed to foreigners.
King Ezekiel’s appearance also introduces a new plotline for Michonne in the printed novel’s story. In the comic book of The Walking Dead, both Michonne and Ezekiel develop a romantic bond after a lot of fighting between survivors.
However, in AMC’s TV adaption of The Walking Dead, Michonne is already involved romantically with Rick. People will have to wait until the final release to figure out how this will romantic triangle will unfold in the series.
Alexandria may never turn back to what it used to be
Last time people saw Alexandria colony, it was attested of zombies. This situation opens a lot of possibilities in the future. The final say will come from Rick Grimes of course but will be chosen to reconstruct? Or will he just lead his team to another place?
The comic offers a bit of insight in this regard. The issue number #85 shows Rick gathering the remaining survivors to plan a safer and more self-reliant Alexandria. This decision means that Aaron will not continue recruiting outsiders and Heath has to organize more supply expeditions.
This fact suggests that AMC might follow the comic book storyline and keep the survivors together to rebuild. Also, the recovery of Alexandria secures to some point the fact that Ezekiel´s Kingdom will have an important role.
Who Will Negan beat to death with Lucille?
The main cliffhanger from last season was the introduction of the new villain, Negan. During the final chapter, he beats someone from Rick Grimes´ survivor team. It is unknown who this person was but one thing is sure, he is now part of the army of dead.
So far, people know he chooses his victim with an old ‘Eenie Meenie Miney Mo’ game. However, the latest scenes of the final episode were edited in a way fans can’t see who gets picked.
Some fans speculate that this time around, the series might stick to the comic. If this was the scenario, then Negan should have killed Glenn with Lucille, his most treasured bat covered in a metal wiring.
