The Techfest Munich 2016, to be held on September 9, 10, and 11, will offer participants the chance to win prizes worth €30,000. The international technology festival will take place in the Entrepreneurship Center at the campus of the Technical University of Munich (TUM).

Initiated and is organized by UnternehmerTUM, the Center for Innovation and Business Creation at TUM, the TechFest will bring together 300 entrepreneurs, creatives, tech evangelists, corporate innovators, designers, coders, hackers, and makers.

Described as more than a hackathon, it combines technology, design, and science. During the two-day event, teams of 3-5 people will work on a project to create an innovative tech-related product or service.

To boost out-of-the-box creativity, they will provide the teams with art-installations, music, and special activities like yoga sessions, a funfair, and more.

Offerings and tech speakers at 2016 TechFest in Munich

The Entrepreneurship Center offers 3,000 square meters workspace. It has a 1,500 square meters high-tech workshop maker space with over 100 tools and machines such as 3D printers, laser and jet cutters, metal and woodworking shops as well as textile and electrical processing facilities.

In regards to hardware, the workshop will supply teams with a host of devices including the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Apple Watch, Adafruit WICKED WiFi Feather, Arduino Zero link Bluetooth, Grove – Starter Kit V3, Intel Genuino, Intel Galileo, and Adidas smart ball.

UnternehmerTUM is known for providing technology-based startup teams with entrepreneurship training and access to prototyping infrastructure. Therefore, the TechFest 2016 will have invited tech experts to discuss robots, machines, the web, mobile, IoT, maker projects, art, visuals, data vis, lights, VR, and AR.

TechFest’s challenges and prizes

The Gold and Silver Partners like OSRAM, AstraZeneca, MAN, next47 by Siemens, Adidas, FlixBus, and Amazon Web Services will set and showcase innovation challenges and technologies. Participants are then free to choose their projects.

They can work on a challenge or an original idea in the wild track. The projects will then compete for the Techfest Munich Awards in the Techslam on the last day. Teams can win prizes worth more than €30,000 in total.

The Techfest Munich covers technology, hardware, coaching, labs and workshops as well as free FlixBus travel, food and drinks, and accommodation for 150 people with tents, rooms, and showers. Participants can also bring their sleeping bag and mat to camp at the festival, or go to a host of reserved rooms at hotels nearby.

Participation is free of charge, but partakers must be older than 18 years of age. They agree to the publication of pictures and videos taken during the event on the Internet, in brochures and other media. RSVPs for the Techfest Munich have already closed.
