Samsung Electronics has revealed a new laundry system that can handle four loads at once in two sets of washing and drying chambers.

The machine will have all the expected smart features, including a mobile app and will premiere at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, from January 5 to 8.

Samsung’s new system seems quite similar to LG’s Twin Wash machine, at first glance, but it comes with a few more perks. For example, it eliminates the need for two separate water lines.

This new product might also be another redeemer for Samsung, who came under fire in September after some of the brand’s washers exploded in the United States, following their scandal with the Note 7 smartphone.

Introducing FlexWash and FlexDry technology

The set is the combination of a FlexWash and a FlexDry machine. Both have a 5-cubic-foot front chamber for all types of garments and a top 1-cubic-foot compartment for delicate fabrics.

For the washing part, the FlexWash has an internal separator that eliminates the need for two pipes and distributes water efficiently to the whole system. The washer also includes Samsung’s SuperSpeed and SuperFoam cleaning modes.

The main dryer for the FlexDry comes with Samsung’s trademark MultiSteam technology, aimed for better garment care in a standard tumble-dry motion. The smaller top loader uses a rack style design and has customizable heat zones.

Customers can control the appliance via Samsung’s Smart Home app, available for Android and iOS. This perk allows them to stop and start cycles at will and monitor their progress safely.

Samsung has not detailed any pricing or release date yet. The company has also not specified if it will be compatible with the SmartThings platform, though this is very likely.

The problem with Samsung’s exploding washing machines

Early in September, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) released a statement warning users not to buy Samsung latest washer models following repeated reports of loud explosions during regular cycles.

Samsung owners in Indiana, Georgia, and Texas complained about the issue. News sources counted 21 cases in total, though they may have been a lot more. One customer from New Jersey even filed a formal lawsuit against the Korean giant.

The problem affected only top-loading washing machines, according to reports. Samsung later released a statement in which they said a partnership with US regulators was in effect to solve the issue.

Samsung’s new appliance will be one of the main players at the company’s booth (#15006) on Level 1 of the Central Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
