On Friday Nordic Games’ Lars Wingefors, announced on the official company website a rebranding to THQ Nordic. Wingefors is none other that Nordic Game’s Founder and Owner. Nordic Games acquired THQ back in 2014.
THQ was one of the most famous game developers with franchises such as Saints Row, Dawn of War and Red Faction. THQ faced severe financial struggles, and it had to declare bankruptcy in December 2012. A few weeks later THQ began liquidating its content to rival developers like Sega, Take-Two, and Ubisoft. Nordic Games bought some franchises and the THQ trademark rights in 2014.
Former THQ’s franchises owned by THQ Nordic include Red Faction, Darksiders, Full Spectrum Warrior, de Blob and Titan Quest.
Since Nordic Games was created back in 2008, the company has grown each year. Nordic purchased 16 individual IPs and some franchises during these years
On Nordic Games’ official website the company explained the great importance of adding THQ to its name. THQ Nordic represents better the new approach to the enterprise than just owning a former developer. The company highlighted its Swedish roots during the press release.
The company described the rebrand as the next step in the company’s evolution.
THQ Nordic on its rebranding announced having as much as 23 game projects in development stage.thirteen of these games have not been publicly announced as yet. The majority of the games in development stage are based on former THQ franchises and IPs.
“AS FOR THE NEW LOGO DESIGN, WE LITERALLY STUMBLED ACROSS IT WHEN BROWSING SOME ART FILES…WE HOPE THE RECEPTION FROM OUR PARTNERS IS LESS AMBIVALENT BUT WE’RE OKAY EITHER WAY,” declared Lars Wingefors, THQ Nordic’s owner and founder on the rebranding release.
THQ Nordic seized the opportunity to invite its fans to visit its booth at Cologne’s Gamescom. The booth will feature the company’s current projects and the upcoming games.
THQ Nordic ongoing projects might include Darksiders 3, Supreme Commanded and Stuntman. The full list of its games are expected to be unveiled at the upcoming Gamescom 2016. Sadly, for people waiting for Saints Row V updates they will have to look elsewhere as THQ Nordic wasn’t able to snatch that IP.
THQ Nordic currently has Darksiders: Warmastered Edition on the slate for a 25th October launch. Warmastered is a high definition version of the old action adventure game.
THQ Nordic also recently released a PC, PS4 and Xbox One remaster of last-gen game Darksiders 2.
