MSi VR One release date
Micro-Star International (MSI) will announce the world’s first-ever virtual reality backpack, the MSI VR One, at this year’s Tokyo Game Show (TGS). The video game expo will take place from September 15 to 18.
Together with the VIVE team of HTC Corporation, MSI embarked on the project to deliver the best VR experience on mobile platforms. The concept for the VR One was under discussion since the beginning of the year.
As the the world’s lightest and thinnest backpack PC system, MSI and HTC VIVE team expect the VR One to have an enormous impact on the global VR market. The platform will offer VR experience without the need of staying close to the PC and monitor’s cable connection.
How long do the VR One’s batteries last?
The MSI VR One weighs 3.6kg, comes with two battery packs and delivers up to 1.5 hours of gameplay. The rechargeable and hot-swappable batteries are located on the bottom right and left of the backpack.
Four white lights placed next to the mount indicate each battery’s life. Four lights mean the battery life is 75%~100%, and three lights it is 50%~75%. Two lights stand for 25%~50%, while one flashing light means it is under 25% and will soon run out of power.
Users can swap one battery at a time using an adaptor. If they plug in the adaptor, they can remove both batteries. It will not decrease the performance of the VR experience as the VR One design offers high mobility.
MSI VR One: features and specs
Powered by an I7 overclocked CPU and GeForce GTX 10 series graphics card, it’s cooling system only produces 40dBA of noise thanks to its 90mm fans and nine heat pipes. Like with the MSI Vortex, the VR One is entirely HTC Vive optimized which means high-end specs.
The VR backpack features one HDMI port, one Mini DisplayPort, and one USB Type-C port supporting Thunderbolt 3 to support VR experience with over 90FPS for any high-end VR device. Four USB 3.0 ports a microphone jack, and a headphone jack are also available.
Equipped with the newest MSI Dragon Center software, users can take complete control of their VR platform with one Click-VR key. It allows them to adjust and manage MSI gaming features as well as monitoring the VR One’s hardware status in details from their smartphone.
Plus, with SHIFT Technology users can boost performance and fan speed to achieve the best VR experience.
