Moto X 4th Gen 2016 Vs Moto X Play: Rumored Specs, Price and Features

If rumors are to be believed, Motorola is expected to release Moto X 4th gen 2016 within the next few months.

There are widespread rumors about the specifications and images of the smartphone have been leaked on social media by well-known leakers.

In this piece, we will compare the upcoming Moto X 4th gen with Moto X 3rd generation — Moto X Play —, released in July 2015.

Display

As per reports, Lenovo should release two variants of Moto X in 2016.

While the model in silver and white color is called as Vertex, Lenovo has branded the black color model as Vector Thin.

You can also expect a Moto X device with 5.5-inch AMOLED Quad HD display. The Motorola Moto X Style, meanwhile, features a 5.7-inch IPS display with a pixel density of 520 PPI.

CPU and GPU

While the Vector Thin model will be equipped with a quad-core Snapdragon 820, the Vertex offers an octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset.

The Moto X 3rd generation is packed with a Snapdragon 808 chipset coupled with Adreno 418 graphics, loaded with Android Lollipop.

In all probability, the upcoming Moto X will be equipped with Android 6.1 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.

RAM and Internal Storage

Relying on the most recent info, Moto X 4th generation is said to be available in various combinations like 3GB/4GB RAM with 32GB of internal storage and 2GB RAM/16GB of internal storage and 3GB RAM with 32GB storage capacities.

Like the Moto X 3rd gen, you will be able to expand the storage up to 128GB via microSD.

We were unable to find any precise information about the availability of 64GB in the 4th gen but hope it will also find a place. The previous generation shipped with only 3GB RAM for all storage capacities.

Camera

The Vector Thin model will likely be packed with a 16MP sensor with LED Flash, laser-assisted and phase detection autofocus, while the Vertex variant will be shipped with a 13MP camera with support for optical image stabilization and laser autofocus.

Last year’s model ships with 21 MP main camera with support for dual-LED flash and phase detection autofocus. It also features a 5MP front-facing shooter with 1.4 µm pixel size and LED Flash support.

At the moment, we don’t have any solid data about the front-facing sensor in the upcoming Moto X but wish it will be at least 5MP.

Battery

While the Vertex model is expected to include a 3,500mAh battery, the Vector Thin variant will bear a 2,600mAh battery, which is lower than Vertex.

Moreover, as the name implies, the Vector Thin measures only 5.2mm in thickness, while its big brother likely to measure 7mm.

If you look at the specs of Moto X 3rd gen, you will find that it has a fixed 3,000mAh battery.

Fingerprint Sensor

A big attraction of the upcoming Moto X 4th Gen is that it includes a highly sensitive fingerprint sensor on the rear of the device below the large camera sensor. You will be able to perform various activities like unlocking the screen, capturing selfies by using the scanner.

However, the Moto X 3rd Gen doesn’t ship with a dedicated fingerprint scanner. We have seen the integration of fingerprint scanner in all the high-end smartphones released in 2016.

Water Resistance

The Moto X 3rd Gen had been equipped with water repellent nano-coating with IP52 certified technology, though Motorola is expected to take a step forward with the upcoming Moto X and implement an improved water and dust resistance technology.

Price

As of writing this, we don’t have any specific information about the price of Moto X 4th gen. We expect it to set consumers back a tad higher than the former iteration, due to the incorporation of the fingerprint sensor, though do hold a grain of salt for the time being.

Judging from the Moto X Play, and by adding the aformentioned extra fee, we pressume that the 2016 model should fall somewhere in the $350 to $450 price range.

What are your expectations for the forthcoming Moto X 4th Gen 2016? Sound off in the comments below.
