Playstation recently placed Major League Baseball star Ken Griffey Jr. on the cover of their upcoming title ‘MLB The Show 17.‘ The company announced it on the official Playstation blog yesterday. “The Kid” Griffey is one of the most famous players of the previous decades.
Playstation also released a promotional video to unveil Griffey’s inclusion on the game’s cover, along with the hashtag #TheKidIsBack. The company has not revealed the player chosen for the front cover of the Canadian version.
The title is already available for pre-order and will come out officially on March 28, 2017.
MLB The Show 17 price and promotions
The game will launch in four different editions, Standard, MVP, Hall of Fame, and Digital Deluxe. Each one comes with different benefits. Available retailers include Amazon, GameStop, and the ‘Standard Edition’ starts at $59.99. Digital Deluxe costs $99.99.
Pre-order grants the player ten bonus Standard Packs along with a Ken Griffey Jr. card upon purchase or downloading the game.
Buying from GameStop will get the player five more Packs for a total of fifteen, and ordering from the PS Store means receiving 11,000 in Stubs for MLB The Show 16.
Playstation partnered with New York-based hat maker New Era to create a limited edition Hall of Fame 9FIFTY snapback which players will receive when ordering the Hall of Fame Edition of the game.
They will also get exclusive Starter Packs, 11,000 Stubs, and 31 unique MLB themes for their consoles.
The Hall of Fame edition has the same cost as the Digital Deluxe. The former concentrates its value on the snapback while the following grants players more packs and digital content.
The MVP Edition costs $69.99 and has almost all the same gifts of the Hall of Fame, except the New Era hat. It comes with an official limited-edition MVP Steel Book.
Ken “The Kid” Griffey Jr.’s baseball career
Also known as “Junior.” and sometimes “The Natural,” George Kenneth was the son of MLB player Ken Griffey Sr. of the Cincinnati Reds. He was born in Donora Pennsylvania, on November 21, 1969.
“The Kid” debuted with the Seattle Mariners in 1989, playing with them for a decade before moving to his father’s signature team in Ohio until 2008. That year, he played one season with the Chicago White Sox before returning to the Mariners. Griffey retired in 2010.
Griffey participated in 13 All-Star games and was the recipient of 10 Gold Glove awards and 7 Silver Slugger Awards, all of them during his first run for the Mariners. The National League named him Comeback Player of The Year in 2005.
