BlizzCon 2016: new WOW characters coming to Heroes of the Storm

U.S. Anaheim, Calif – Video games studio Blizzard revealed the next playable characters for its PC MOBA, Heroes of the Storm, at BlizzCon 2016.

Players will soon meet two new heroes that are very different from the current roster: the Warcraft hero Varian Wrynn, and the mighty World of Warcraft raid boss Ragnaros will be coming to the Nexus in the following days.

Both characters are iconic Warcraft names, and they are also among Hearthstone’s best legendaries. Varian Wrynn will arrive on November 15 along with with a new map and a new challenge, while Ragnaros will follow in December.

Warcraft Legends arriving at Heroes of the Storm

Varian the first multiclass character in Heroes of The Storm. The “Ghost Wolf,” former king of Warcraft’s Stormwind, is an “adaptable fighter” who can either dish out the damage of become the tank of the team.

Also, at levels 4 and 10, players can select from game-changing perks that will turn Wrynn to either a twin-bladed assassin or a shield-bearing warrior.

Ragnaros, the Fire Lord from the Molten Core, has devastating AOE abilities, including lava waves to burn waves of minions. He also has a trait called molten core to take over an enemy fortress.

Both Varian and Ragnaros are available to play at BlizzCon during the weekend. For those not attending, Blizzard will release Varian into the test realm next week.

A new Brawl and a new Challenge are on the way

 The studio also announced a new Brawl on BlizzCon 16. Blackheart’s Revenge will be the first battleground to feature unbalanced attack/defense gameplay.

Only one team has a Core and must gather cannonballs and load cannons to defend the docks from Blackheart’s ship. The opposing team must help the pirate reach port by keeping the ship floating.

Also on its way is the Nexus Challenge. Blizzard says it will be “the biggest giveaway in Heroes of the Storm to date.”

Between November 15 and January 4, player teams who complete 15 Ranked, Unranked Draft, Quick Match of Co-op vs. AI games will unlock the Oni Genji skin, spray and icon in Overwatch, as well as a Zayra and the Oni Genji portrait on the MOBA.

Finishing 30 games as a team will unlock even more Heroes for all members, plus the new Orochi Hovercycle mount and a 30-day stim pack.

BlizzCon 16 is running from Friday, Nov. 4 to Saturday, Nov. 5  

The new playable characters are available to try out in the event. For those not attending, Varin Wrynn is going to the test realm next week.

The BlizzCon announcements came just a couple of months after the game studio released the Machines of War mode for Heroes of the Storm, and added Overwatch’s Zarya to the roster.

People can watch the live-stream must buy a virtual ticket for $39.99 and enter blizzcom.com to follow the event online. Fans can also enjoy a bit of the streaming for free.
