A fan spotted joe Dempsie arriving at Belfast

Gendry, the long-lost bastard son of Robert Baratheon, played by actor Joe Dempsie, might reappear in season 7 of HBO’s fantasy drama TV series Game of Thrones (GOT). The character was last seen in season 3 when Davos helped him escape in a rowboat from certain death.

A fan spotted Joe Dempsie getting off a plane at the Belfast International Airport and snapped a photo of the actor. The Paint Hall Studios in Belfast, Northern Ireland, serves as the show’s primary filming location.

His Internet Movie Database (IMDb) page does not display any projects in the works that would require Dempsey to be in Belfast. With Stannis, Renly, Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen all dead, Gendry is one of the last Baratheon still alive.

If Gendry does appear in the upcoming GOT season, fans are theorizing that he will meet Sam in Oldtown. Sam arrived there to begin his Maester training at the Citadel at the end of season 7, while Gendry fled in a rowboat to Westeros.

Why will Sam and Gendry meet?

GOT fans believe Sam will study the creation of Valyrian Steel and will require a Smith. Sam will then talk to the Smith living in Oldtown, who’s no other than Gendry.

Following the battle of Hardhome in season 5, Valyrian steel is now, alongside dragon glass, the only two known materials that can kill White Walkers. Sam discovered the capability of dragon glass in season 3 when he stabbed a White Walker with a dragon glass dagger.

Even though the art of forging Valyrian steel got lost with the Doom of Valyria, when viewers first saw Gendry, he was working with Tobho Mott in King’s Landing. The latter is one of the last armorers to know how to forge the precious steel. Mott could have taught the ability to Gendry, and if so it could help defeat the army of White Walkers.

Gendry and Arya have history

The Baratheon bastard lived in King’s Landing as an armorer’s apprentice during season 1 and was unaware of his true parentage until season 3. Gendry joined the Night’s Watch recruits and met Arya Stark along the way to the Wall in season 2.

During their journey, they got ambushed by Tywin’s army and taken prisoners to the castle of Harrenhal. After escaping, Gendry and Arya cross paths with the rebel group, Brotherhood without Banners. Gendry decides to stay with them as their blacksmith.

However, he is soon betrayed by the Brotherhood and sold to Melisandre. She intended to burn Gendry’s royal blood alive at the stake in a blood magic ritual to put Stannis on the Iron Throne. Unlike Shireen, Stannis’ daughter, Gendry got lucky as Davos put him in a rowboat to Westeros in the season 3 finale.
