Bandai Namco Entertainment launched a new chapter of the action RPG, God Eater. God Eater 2: Rage Burst, is an expansion featuring new stories, skills, and a vast array of weapons. The game launched at the Playstation store on Monday.

Early reviews of God Eater 2 have already praised its mechanics and rich story, as well as fantastic item crafting and character leveling, all key aspects of this types of games. Some critics even compared it to classics like the Monster Hunter series.

Bandai Namco released God Eater Burst in 2010 for Japan and 2011 in the U.S. The first title of the saga takes the player to Japan 2071, where powerful monsters, known as ‘The Arigami,’ have been destroying the world. This thread causes the foundation of ‘Fenrir,’ an organization in charge of exterminating these fiends.

Then, Fenrir recruits exceptional warriors named ‘God Eaters.’ These heroes fight against the monsters using ‘God Arcs,’ weapons made from Arigami cells. In the beginning, God Eaters had only one type of Arc, which came in gun form or blade form.

However, Fenrir soon discovered a new kind of weapon capable of switching between the two forms. Warriors with the ability to handle these Arcs are known as ‘New-Type God Eaters.’

Players can customize their own God Eater

God Eater 2 takes place three years after the events of God Eater Burst. Players are in charge of a young New-Type hero across a single-mode campaign of over 100 missions. The game also offers a Co-op mode of up to three teammates.

The new expansion of the game features new content separated into six difficulty levels within the main quests.

Every God Arc have unique skills and advantages

Crafting is crucial in God Eater 2: Rage Burst. Players must gather materials across the world to make more powerful God Arcs. After each mission, the character gains three abandoned Arcs. The player can transfer skills from these weapons to his or her gear.

The title also features attack add-ons called ‘Blood Arts’ to augment regular hits and boost criticals. NPCs throughout the game can grant new Blood Arts after completing side quests.

God Eater 2 will force the player to seek the best strategy

Bandai Namco Community Specialist, Dmitryi Khlynin, posted some game tips on the PlayStation’s blog on Monday. He recommended switching between melee and gun Arcs to maximize damage.

He also suggested the player should focus on completing missions until Blood Arts are unlocked. Once the add-ons are available, the player can get two or three levels to start exploring.

“IT IS RECOMMENDED TO ACQUIRE AT LEAST ONE GROUND AND ONE AERIAL BLOOD ART,” he wrote.

God Eater 2: Rage Burst is available at The PlayStation Store for PS4 and PS Vita. The game costs $59.99
