The team of game developers at Campo Santo announced the release of ‘Firewatch’ for Xbox One on September 21. The critically acclaimed game will arrive on the Microsoft gaming console along with two new gameplay modes.
The announcement paired with Campo Santo’s exhibition at PAX West in Seattle, Washington. The developers revealed the game’s launch on Friday, September 2, and invited fans to celebrate at booth 6808 that same day on the inauguration of the event. PAX West will last until tomorrow, September 5.
‘Firewatch’ was first released for PlayStation 4 and PC in February earlier this year. The game gained rave reviews from critics and praise from the gaming community for its seamless combination of innovative storytelling and beautiful style.
Gripping narrative and unique aesthetics meet in Wyoming for Firewatch
Campo Santo and Panic both debuted as developers and publishers respectively in the game industry with ‘Firewatch’. 1989 in the Wyoming woods serve as the setting for the first-person thriller game.
Following the Yellowstone fires of 1988, all fire lookout towers are reinforced at the Shoshone National Forest in Wyoming. Henry, a resident of the area, takes on the lookout position unknowingly of the events that would unfold.
Guarding the tower in Shoshone should be a dull routine, but Henry is in as a surprise since his very first day of a watch when he finds a couple of drunken teenagers on his territory gathered around the lake shooting fireworks. He makes nothing of it and sends the youngsters home but on his way back to his post he catches what seems to be the shadow of a man looking at him from a distance.
After finding the lookout watchtower destroyed, Henry sets out to investigate with the help of Delilah, a colleague at another post. Much adding to the mysterious tone of the game, both characters communicate only through a walkie-talkie.
‘Firewatch’ will introduce Audio Tour and free-roam modes in new update
As compensation for the eight-month wait, Xbox One players of ‘Firewatch’ will get instant access to two new modes: the Audio Tour and free-roam mode.
Whereas ‘Firewatch’ is a game that progresses within a set storyline, the free-roam mode will let players do exactly that: explore. In the match, Henry has to complete or achieve certain goals to advance in the in-game narrative, but the new gameplay mode will do away with that and grant full access to the entire wilderness.
Moreover, the developers described the ‘Firewatch’ Audio Tour as “one part scavenger hunt, one part museum tour, one part game dev workshop, mixed with a dash of inside Campo Santo goofs.”
The successful title has sold over 500,000 copies and will be available on September 21 for Xbox One. PS4 and PC players will have to wait a couple of weeks for the new game modes in an upcoming free upgrade.
