Rihanna is one the biggest pop stars in history, and rap singer Drake wholeheartedly agrees. Prior to the 2016’s MTV Video Music Awards evening on Sunday, Drake congratulated the diva for her career with a huge “congratulations” letter.
Drizzy decided to post up a message to the diva in a giant billboard in Los Angeles, in advance of her receiving the honorific Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs. “Congratulations to Rihanna from Drake and Everyone at Ovo,” he wrote on the highway sign.
The romantic advertising and commitment to gesture didn’t pass unchecked. Rihanna quickly responded on her Instagram account. “When he extra,” she captioned the photo of the billboard, along with a happy heart and a trophy.
Short and right to the point. A sweet response that brings back the question of whether the pair is romantically involved. Of course, a billboard-size gift is worth –quite literally- more than a thousand words.
The rumor has it that Drake and Rihanna are dating in “secret”
It would explain the effort Drake made to address the singer. Or perhaps, the billboard is meant to drive attention to Drake’s single “Too Good” featuring Rihanna.
On the same note, “Too Good” is not the only collaboration between the two artists. Before that, there was Riri’s “Work” single.
And in between several live presentations where Drake cannot help to forget he’s on playback and just abandons the mic to get along with the twerking.
Drake will arrive at the VMA with multiple nominations for his “Hotline Bling” video. Meanwhile, Rihanna not only will receive an award for her talents, but is also in charge of the opening act and, thus, the overall tone of the event.
Rihanna will be the main event at the MTV Music Awards 2016
VMAs executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic said Riri’s medley would include “the biggest tracks of her career.” The performance, she explains, will be “incredibly impactful.”
Rihanna also has four nominations under her belt. Best video for “Work;” best male video on Calvin Harris “This Is What You Came For “ (where she sings); and best collaboration for those two titles.
The opening act will likely involve the ever-present “Umbrella,” along with other old titles as “Shut Up And Drive,” “S&M,” and “B**ch Better Have My Money.” The superhit she dances with Drake could potentially close the performance.
Along the act, possible guest could be Calvin Harris, Kanye West, and Jay-Z, but the most obvious option to sing at her side is her no so secret boyfriend, the same that has a huge board in L.A. just for her.
Additionally, Rihanna has made an Instagram post linking her presentation with Pandagunda, a Swedish digital artist who specializes in eccentric futuristic drawings and renditions of humanoid species.
The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards will air on August 28 at 9 pm ET/PT.
