New concerns involving Republican candidate Donal Trump started to arise when, on Wednesday, MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough revealed that Trump allegedly asked a foreign policy adviser about nuclear weapons and why the United States doesn´t get to use them.
According to Scarborough, Trump asked the counsel multiple times about the matter during a national security briefing. If true, this story would add up to a series of dangerous opinions on nuclear warfare made by the famous businessman over the course of his campaign.
This kind of erratic behavior has lost Donald Trump lot of support, especially from his own party.
The MSNBC anchor shared the anecdote while interviewing former CIA director, Michael Hayden.
“I´LL HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL HERE,” he continued, “SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, A FOREIGN POLICY EXPERT ON INTERNATIONAL LEVEL WENT TO ADVISE TRUMP, AND THREE TIMES HE ASKED ABOUT THE USE OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS. THREE TIMES, HE ASKED, AT ONE POINT, IF WE HAVE THEM, WHY CAN´T WE USE THEM?” said Scarborough. The news anchor learned about the conversation in the last few days, according to an MSNBC executive.
The campaign staff denied Scarborough’s claims
Trump`s campaign spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, soon denied the story, followed by campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who said he was at the security meeting, and that Trump hadn’t asked about nuclear weapons.
However, Scarborough´s allegations were enough to encourage Jeb Bush`s former security adviser, John Noonan, to post a series of tweets about the dangers of having Donald Trump as the president of the United States.
Noonan explained the idea of having nuclear weapons was never to use them. He also expressed concerns about giving a man with such an erratic behavior access to dangerous weapons.
Donald Trump doesn’t seem to know about nuclear weapons
Donald Trump has been criticized for his views on weapons of mass destruction, and sometimes, for his lack of knowledge about them.
When asked during a GOP debate in Las Vegas which of the three legs of the nuclear triad he would prioritize, Trump responded that nuclear is just about power, and that devastation was crucial to him.
Donald Trump said the United States should be unpredictable and erratic with its nuclear arsenal on an interview at CBS’ Face of the Nation this year.
The GOP nominee is expected to continue his rallies while preparing for the first presidential debate scheduled for September 26th at the Hofstra University, NY.
