Blizzard Entertainment uploaded to YouTube a new launch trailer for ‘World of Warcraft: Legion’, the latest expansion pack in the ongoing video game series. The trailer made its debut one day before the official worldwide release of ‘Legion’ on August 30.

‘Legion’ was announced back in August last year at Gamescom 2015, and it is the sixth expansion set for the original ‘World of Warcraft’ MMORPG. The set is the first since the ‘World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor’ was introduced back in November 2014.

Players around the world can purchase the ‘Legion’ expansion set from the game’s official site starting at $49.99 for the standard edition or $69.99 for the digital deluxe edition. ‘World of Warcraft: Legion’ is available for both PC and Mac.

12 Years of World of Warcraft

It is quite easy to get confused in the massive universe created by Blizzard Entertainment. First of all, it should be noted that the ‘Warcraft’ video game saga is nearly 22 years old, with the first title ‘Warcraft: Orcs & Humans’ released back in November 1994.

From then on, Blizzard published three other main titles set in the ‘Warcraft’ universe: ‘Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness’ in 1995, ‘Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos’ in 2002, and ‘World of Warcraft’ in 2004.

‘World of Warcraft’ is the MMORPG phenomenon from which all current expansions originate. As obvious as it may seem, it is also important to note that all expansion sets for the game exist simultaneously but separately.

The original game has received six extensions over the span of twelve years, averaging one set every two years. ‘The Burning Crusade,’ ‘Wrath of the Lich King’, and ‘Cataclysm’ make up the first three expansions of WoW’s golden era. The ‘Mists of Pandaria’ and ‘Warlords of Draenor’ packs released in recent years have been met with mixed reception from players and a declining user base.

‘Legion’ has a huge weight to carry on its shoulders

As the sixth and latest expansion, ‘Legion’ will premiere with enormous pressure from the gaming community to bring back some of the epic magic from the original game and first expansions.

To meet players’ expectations, Blizzard brings a whole new area to explore in the World of Warcraft. The Broken Isles are the main stage where the ‘Legion’ story takes place. Furthermore, the Burning Legion is back to wreak havoc in Azeroth, led by the orc Walrock Gu’ldan following the events are featured in ‘Warlords of Draenor’.

The Demon Hunter class joins the ever-expanding roster of races and classes featured in WoW and the level cap rises from 100 to 110. Several changes to existing classes and in-game mechanics are also supported, further featuring some new weapons, pets, dungeons and raids available throughout the story.

Several iconic characters will return to fight the Burning Legion’s invaders, as both the Horde and the Alliance meet again against an ancient evil force this August 30.
