Asus revealed that the latest model of the Zenfone series, the Zenfone 3, will arrive in May 2016, with an advanced fingerprint sensor embed on the back of the device.
The first two installments of the Zenfone series were launched in late 2014 and early 2015. Instead of the speculated January debut, Asus has decided to roll out the device in May or the first week of July.
In addition to the release date, it has also been reported that a fingerprint sensor technology will be part of one of the newest additions to the existing host of gimmicks that can be found on the Asus Zenfone line-up. The Taiwan-based tech giant has also stated that they are able to incorporate in the fingerprint sensor at this moment, duly to the substantial reduction of the particular technology’s cost.
The report also elaborated on the company’s plan to reach the unexplored markets such as Cambodia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria and Myanmar, along with the South East Asian countries where it has already received a significantly positive response from consumers.
Asus also mentioned that it is highly likely of soon becoming recipient of heavy competition from the existing Chinese smartphone front-runners who have already dominated the aforementioned regions; including, Huawei, Lenovo, Oppo, Vivo, Meizu, Coolpad, ZTE, and Xiaomi, especially in developing markets.
According to some other intel provided by sources close to the company, Asus will be using the fingerprint technology that was developed by Taiwan-based Elan Microelectronics and China-based Goodix.
A while ago, the CEO of Asus, Jonney Shih, also teased that they are working on a new device that will have the reversible USB Type-C connector. This port brings about the possibility of fast charging along with reversible power.
Other than these facts, much rumours and speculations regarding tech specifications, design and pricing have not emerged online yet.
