New media playback, messaging notifications and voice search capabilities included in this update
Google is rolling out a new update in the next couple of days for Android Auto that includes media playback, message notifications, and improved voice search options. This update is also focused on a more user-friendly user interface that reduces distractions for the driving experience
As the way that we interact with our car entertainment console is more connected to our smartphone devices, the problem of distractions for drivers becomes more relevant. With the new Android Auto update, Google is trying to balance between adding new features and keeping the overall design simple with the driving experience in mind.
Now users can play media from apps like Google Play Books, Google Play Music, iHeartRadio, Pocket Casts, and Spotify. Now content is displayed more prominently with larger album art that allows for easier selection of artists, albums, and tracks. You can also change what your listening to due to new Google Play Assistant capabilities that allow access to several music categories.
Also messaging apps like Messages, Hangouts and WhatsApp will be able to work with the new messaging options that allow you to stay connected without distractions. One of the most innovative features is that Android Auto will only show you short previews of messages when your vehicle is stopped. This preview options must be enabled via the setting menu. Also, MMS (multimedia messaging service)and RCS(rich communication services) are now fully supported on the Android Auto platform. Group messaging is also available.
These updates will be available to all Android Auto users in the next few days by checking the app in the Google Play Store.
