US manufacturer WiTricity announced a new wireless charger for modern devices at CES 2017, and the Dell 2-in-1 Latitude 7285 will be the first one to carry it. The convertible device that can switch between tablet or laptop mode will be released in June 2017, and the price will be announced close to that date.
The Dell 2-in-1 Latitude 7285 is a convertible device aimed at business people who want to stop worrying about cords that are prone to get damaged, and instead, charge their devices just by placing them on a charging mat that works with magnetic resonance. This way, users will be able to charge the laptop to its full capacity.
With this new system, you can grab the Latitude 7285 and walk away from your workstation without having to worry about unplugging any wires or charging pods. Then, you can go back to your desk, and your laptop will be charging again immediately, says Dell.
WiTricity CEO said the Dell Latitude not only enables a more productive working environment, but it also accelerates the establishment of a resonance-enabled wireless charging system.

The laptop itself can be used as a tablet by detaching the keyboard and using the touchscreen function. It comes with a 12-inch 2880×1920 IGZO display and includes 8GB or 16GB of RAM. The convertible device works with 7th-generation Intel Kaby Lake chips.
Storage has a top capacity of 512GB and a traditional microSD card slot if in need of extra space. According to Dell, the laptop can last up to 6 hours on a single charge if used in tablet mode, and up to 9 hours in laptop mode with its keyboard attached.
How is wireless charging possible?
WiTricity is the company behind the development of the wireless charger for the Dell 2-in-1 Latitude 7285. It is called the WT8800, and it is last-generation technology. It is a system that will allow many smart device manufacturers to use wireless charging technology on their products, such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

Many devices like smartphones already use this technology, as the addition of wireless charging technology is becoming increasingly popular. However, what makes WiTricity WT8800 special is that it uses magnetic resonance as opposed to most of the current devices that use magnetic induction.
With this technology, devices equipped with WT8800 can get power from compatible charging pads, even through different materials. Also, the device doesn’t have to be perfectly aligned with the pad to receive power. The latter is one of the most common problems for wireless charging technology.
