‘The Legend of Zelda’ franchise keeps reinventing itself. Nintendo published three new trailers showcasing features and gameplay of the upcoming ‘Breath of the Wild’ title. The video game giant posted the videos as unlisted on its Japanese YouTube channel.
The trailers preceded Nintendo’s unexpected move earlier today. The company revealed to the world its next-gen hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch, with a video posted on all of its official YouTube channels.
Nintendo’s first look at the Switch represents the company’s latest efforts to get back on the console race against the likes of Sony and Microsoft. Sony recently released its PlayStation 4 Pro, and Microsoft is expected to give further details about its ‘Project Scorpio’ anytime soon.
‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’ brings dynamic time and weather
After nearly four years since first announcing the game was in development, Nintendo is giving players a closer look at the upcoming ‘Zelda: Breath of the Wild.’ This trend started earlier this year at E3 2016.
While Nintendo did not showcase the upcoming Zelda game as part of its presentation, the team behind ‘Breath of the Wild’ did sit down with E3 staff to talk about the title. During the interview with the game’s producer Eji Aonuma, the developers revealed new footage showing the passing of time in the upcoming title.
In ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,’ a real-life minute roughly amounts to an hour in the game. One of the new trailers shows the passing of time along with the changing weather of this version of Hyrule.
Looking at the meadow for four minutes gives players a glimpse of morning dew, severe thunderstorms, and afternoon hazes.
‘Breath of the Wild’ introduces new ways to use objects from nature
It is no secret that ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’ is a somewhat distant title from the original franchise. The game is set in an alternative Hyrule ravaged by nature after 100 years of peace. Because of this, the region is mostly a vast wilderness with traces of ancient technology and architecture.
The game’s iconic hero, Link, gains new artifacts and abilities as shown in the new trailers. Link can now snowboard with his shield, fight and light fires with tree branches, and glide with a hang glider made out of a large cloth. ‘Breath of the Wild’ also introduces resource gathering and hunting.
Link can now cook food to recover health as well. Moreover, the Hyrule hero’s exposure to nature seems to have given him enhanced fighting abilities. Link will be able to slow time down and perform combos to beat enemies, sort of like bullet-time in The Matrix.
‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’ will be a cross-gen title, as it will land both on the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch in 2017.
