Marvel Studios and Warner Bros.’ DC arrived at San Diego Comic-Con as the two most anticipated movie panels. Both superhero franchises entertained fans with new trailers and upcoming projects.
This year superhero-versus-superhero films have been all over the cinematic world, but the real fight behind Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is the eternal Marvel v DC standoff, with fans choosing sides between The Avengers or the Justice League.
While DC is only beginning to connect the dots for their DC Extended Universe (DCEU), Marvel has already entered in Phase Three of their Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
It rained trailers at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday
During Warner Bros. presentation of DC movies at the San Diego Comic-Con, the studio released the first trailer for the Wonder Woman film due to come out next year, and a surprise Justice League teaser, which only started shooting in last April. Both videos are available online, along with Suicide Squad’s latest teaser.
Chris Pine appeared as World War I pilot Steve Trevor in the culture-clash centered trailer with Gael Gadot (Wonder Woman), while Ben Affleck’s Batman and Ezra Miller’s Flash were the standouts in the Justice League teaser.
Marvel, meanwhile, released the new Doctor Strange trailer and later posted it online. The studio also showed a key sequence from the film where Benedict Cumberbatch’s title character meets the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), in what was a Comic-Con exclusive. In other words, fans who didn’t go to San Diego will have to wait until the movie is released to see that scene.
MCU gave fans teasers from Thor: Ragnarok and Spider-Man: Homecoming as well. Ragnarok will mark the return of both Thor and Hulk, who were absent in Civil War. But the highlight of the night was Marvel’s tease of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Marvel Cinematic Universe versus…
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is the superhero series produced by Marvel Studios and based on characters from Marvel Comics. The franchise includes comic books, short films, and television series.
