Xiaomi recently released its latest budget offering, the Xiaomi Redmi 3 in China. Here is a brief comparison of how this device fairs against the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, the largest sibling of the family, since both are pretty close in terms of price, features and design.
Display
The Redmi 3 sports a 5-inch display that has a resolution of 1280X720 pixels and 294 ppi pixel density, whereas the Redmi Note 3 features a 5.5-inch panel that runs on a resolution of 1920X1080 pixels and 403 ppi pixel density.
The specifications vary like night and day when we compare the two devices. The resolution and the pixel density on the Redmi Note 3 are much better than that of the Redmi 3.
Design
The dimensions of the Redmi 3 measure 139.30 x 69.60 x 8.50mm, while the handset weighs 144g. As for the Redmi Note 3, the dimensions are 150 x 76 x 8.7 mm and the device weighs 164g.
Owing to the larger form factor and screen size of the Redmi Note 3, the 20g weight difference is much justified. However, for those who are looking for a more practical and lighter device, the Redmi 3 is a solid option.
Specs
The Redmi 3 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616, clocked at 1.2 GHz and 2GB of RAM. The device comes with 16GB internal storage.
The Redmi Note 3, on the other hand, is powered by an octa-core Mediatek MT6795 Helio X10 processor, clocked at 2.0 GHz. The smartphone is available in two RAM/internal memory variant, that is 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory and 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal memory.
The 3GB version of the Redmi Note 3 will have a major advantage over the Redmi 3 when it comes to multi-tasking, but when we talk of the 2GB RAM variant, apart from the slight difference in benchmark score, all operations on both these devices will be adequately smooth.
Camera
The Redmi 3 features a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera, whereas the Redmi Note 3 has been equipped with a 13MP rear and a 5MP front-facing camera.
Both handsets feature similar specifications when it comes to the onboard cameras.
Battery
The Redmi 3 is backed by a 4100 mAh battery, whereas the Redmi Note 3 draws its power from a 4000 mAh battery.
Both the devices have almost similar battery capacities, though owing to fast charge compatibility in the Redmi 3, it will charge faster than the Redmi Note 3.
Extra features
It is worth noting that Redmi 3’s fast charging is the one that makes it easier to charge the humungous battery. The Redmi Note 3, even when the fast charging feature is off, can charge up quite fast. Another gimmick that is quite remarkable in the Note 3 is the fact that it comes with a fingerprint sensor that is located at the back of the device.
Pricing and availability
Both these devices are only available in the Chinese market at the moment. As for the pricing, the Redmi 3 sells for almost $105 while the Redmi Note 3 will set you back a tad more, at $150 for the 2GB RAM variant and $180 for the 3GB RAM one.
The Verdict
There is almost a $50 price difference between the two devices, so for the buyers who are on a tight budget, buying the Redmi 3 should ultimately be the place to go. Though, for those who can flex their budget a bit longer, they should – without any doubt – opt for the Redmi Note 3, as with the extra $50, you receive a more sophisticated screen and faster on the clock CPU. The $180 installment of the Redmi Note 3 is, however, not recommended as it goes as high as $180 in pricing and enter a completely different price range of smartphones.
