The much awaited, low-cost delivery Xiaomi Redmi 3 has finally been revealed, after much speculations and rumours in the previous weeks. The look of the device is very sleek and the specs are brilliant for the given price point at which the device is expected to sell at. With a full metal body, this handset is an option that you should definitely look for when considering upgrading to a new smartphone.
Dimensions
The device measures 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5 mm and weighs at 144g, which despite the large battery is quite impressive.
Specs
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 sports a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that has “fully-laminated display“ and comes with 1280X720-pixel resolution with 294ppi pixel density and support for 16M colors.
Under the hood, the device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor, that houses eight Cortex-A53 cores, each clocked at 1.5GHz, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The latter is expandable via microSD card up to 128GB.
In the camera department, the device features a 13MP, f/2.0 rear facing primary camera that supports a selection of gimmicks; such as phase detection, autofocus, full HD video and a two-tone flash. As for the secondary front-facing camera, it is a 5MP shooter that is capable of recording videos at 720p.
Connectivity options include LTE antennas, 3G, GPS (with A-GPS), WiFi, Bluetooth v4.0, microUSB v2.0 and Dual-SIM compatibility.
The device is backed by a whopping 4,100 mAh battery that can be charged to 50% in just an hour using the proprietary charger that is provided with the unit.
The smartphone will come with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, with a layer of Xiaomi’s latest variant of MIUI – MIUI 7 – placed on it.
Extra features
One of the most remarkable features of the Redmi Note 3 is the inclusion of 5V/2A fast charging.
Pricing and availability
At present, Xiaomi has solely shed light onto the Chinese launch of the device, as it has already hit the Chinese market for RMB 699- that is equivalent to $105.
The smartphone will go for sale in three colour variants; Gold, Silver, and Dark Grey metallic body.
We are not yet sure about when this device will be available on all other markets across the world, but looking at the specs, the handset does look promising and worth giving a try. In China, the Redmi 3 will be available via Mi.com and Tmall.
Xiaomi has garnered much interest, especially in the budget friendly mobile section. Even though it didn’t reach its target of 80 million device sales, at 61 million sales, the company has shown great potential.
