Porsche is back this year with an all-new 911 Carrera model that both sticks to its origins and adds new fire to the luxury sports car. The GTS variation packs 450 horsepower and costs $120,000.

The latest generation of the 911 lineup will come, as usual, in coupe, cabriolet, and Targa body styles, while models will range from the standard Carrera to the 911 Turbo.

Selected drivers got to test some of the new cars on the road over the week, just ahead of today’s leaks of the eighth generation of 911s. Coming in 2019, these models are rumored to be fully electric or hybrid-powered when they hit the market.

2017 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS: Specs and design

This year’s Porsche 911s got a very subtle redesign that is almost imperceptible to the untrained eye, although the GTS got a more noticeable black trim that characterizes the unique model.

Other than that, the 2017 cars only got a little wider at the wheelbase and a bit longer both in the front and back. The 911 Carrera GTS is available as a coupe and cabriolet model with rear or all-wheel drive options, while the Targa design is exclusively AWD.

The interior of the car features steering wheel and seats covered in Alcantara, while other parts of the interior sport a leather-based design. 2017’s Porsche 911 Carrera GTS comes with a new suspension system, a five-mode Sports Chrono Package, Sports Exhaust, and Sport Response platforms that complete the high-performance experience of driving the car.

Under the hood, the vehicle packs a new 3.0-liter turbo engine that boosts up to 450 horsepower and 405 lb/ft of torque at 6,500 rpm. Porsche includes its signature 7-speed PDK transmission in two variations: manual and twin-clutch.

On the track, the 911 Carrera GTS can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, almost half a second faster than the 2015 model. Speed on this year’s car tops at 193 mph.

2017 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS: Price and availability

Like all Porsche cars, the 911 Carrera GTS will be available to anyone who can afford it directly through the automaker. The company customizes the specs of the car to match driver requests, but the starting price this year is $120,050.

Aspiring owners must pay a $15,600 premium for the 2017 model, and costs rise almost $20,000 more for the Targa 4 GTS with a maxed-out performance at $139,250. Estimates place deliveries as early as April.
