The State Transportation Cabinet of Kentucky announced on May 12, 2016, that custom, standard, as well as specialized license plates can now be renewed online. The renewal is processed via a mobile app.
The new app was developed for the State at no cost by Frankfort-based Kentucky Interactive LLC.
The Commissioner of the Department of Vehicle Regulation- John Mark Hack, said that the cabinet was pleased to accept license renewal applications online, as it offered motorists more convenience, as well as increased the efficiency of the department in the process.
With an easy to use interface, a motorist only needs to fill in the title number and license plate number along with the requisite payment information to process a renewal. The registration documents will be mailed to the registrant’s physical address after the application is processed. These renewals are only applicable for vehicles registered within the State of Kentucky.
Moreover, the mobile app also allows the user to renew multiple licenses in a single transaction, avoiding the need to re-enter his payment information again. This is only possible if all of these vehicles were registered in the same county.
For more information on renewing your license plate online, visit their official website and if you prefer to get your information over the phone call 502-564-1257.
The website outlines guidelines for the online renewal process, as well as eligibility requirements like not having any outstanding property tax on any vehicle, having a relevant and valid insurance for the said vehicle and an unexpired license registration at the time of your online renewal.
