A 15-second teaser released on YouTube by Sony Pictures Entertainment showed few scenes of the 2017 MCU movie ‘Spider-man: Homecoming,’ including a set of spider-wings Tony Stark gives Peter Parker.
The Spider-Man: Homecoming teaser video first screened at the Comic-Con Experience last weekend.
A full version will apparently appear on the Sony channel tomorrow morning after a screening at Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC at 11:35 p.m.
‘Spider-man: Homecoming’ is the official introduction for the web-slinger to Marvel’s critically acclaimed and box office record-breaking Cinematic Universe series of films. It is also the third reboot of the superhero movie franchise.
Spider-Man: Homecoming plot and setting
The video serves as a good follow-up for all the things Marvel fans learned this Spiderman’s first appearance in ‘Captain America: Civil War.’
For starters, we know it is going to be (most likely) the first Spiderman movie not beginning with Peter Parker’s origin story about how he obtained his powers.
In ‘Civil War,’ he mentions he has had his powers for six months and in the trailer we see him already with the suit, getting a ‘minor upgrade’ from Iron Man himself.
The web wings also signal this movie’s commitment to keeping this version of Spiderman faithful to the earlier comics (albeit with a modern twist). They first appeared in print on the first versions of Steve Ditko’s (Spidey’s co-creator) design, back in the 1960s.
The teaser also revealed the first movie might be set (for a big portion) in Washington D. C., just as its final seconds show.
Spiderman climbs atop the Washington Monument and a police helicopter with red and white stripes follows him closely. This design is the one currently used (in reality) by the Washington D. C. Police Department.
Homecoming cast and release date
The movie’s director is Jon Watts, who does not have a particularly significant background in blockbusters, having ‘Cop Car’ with Kevin Bacon and the comedy series ‘The Onion News Network,’ as his major credits.
As was seen in previous post-credits scenes, Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Tony Stark, and Marisa Tomei will play the youngest Aunt May to date, just as Tom Holland will take the mantle as the most youthful Spiderman in film adaptations so far.
Marvel’s ‘Spider-man: Homecoming’ will hit American theaters on July 7, 2017.
