Galaxy S7 Edge released in MWC 2016: Price, Specs and Availability details

With the release of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, fans of the South Korean smartphone giant are expecting a lot of new things from the device. For those who are wondering about any info regarding the much-anticipated device, read on.

Design

To be frank, there is not much of a difference between the S7 Edge and S6 Edge, when it comes to the design. However, the S7 Edge does look like it is easier to use than the previous Edge.

Dimensions wise, the S7 measures 143.4 x 70.8 x 6.9 mm (5.65 x 2.79 x 0.27 in).

Specs and software

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge sports a 5.5 inches wide IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and 16M colors.

Underneath the hood, the phone is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 (For U.S.)/ Exynos 8890 Octa processor (Elsewhere), coupled with 4GB of RAM at and 32 GB of internal storage and Adreno 530/ Mali-T880 MP12 GPU. The internal storage is expandable. The company has also touted about the presence of a 14nm heat pipe.

Camera wise, the primary shooter, located on the rear, shoots at 12MP and have an aperture of f/1.7. As for the front camera, the device comes with a 5MP shooter. The company has claimed that the camera has got 30% more pixels than the iPhone 6S Plus. This is also the first device to embed Dual Pixel. Some other key features of the camera include Motion Panorama.

In terms of connectivity, the S7 Edge has been fitted with LTE antennas, 3G, GPS (with A-GPS), WiFi, Bluetooth v4.2, FM radio and Nano-SIM.

To accommodate the HD 5.5-inch screen, Samsung has backed the device up with a humongous non-removable 3,600mAh battery. The device will be featuring quick charging along with wireless charging.

The phablet will come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out of the box, skinned under Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.

Other features

Samsung has added the always on display for time and missed calls. It can detect whether you are looking at it or it’s lying in your pockets. The company has also included 3rd party always on screens.

Furthermore, the Edge has been made very responsive and the app drawer has been updated as well. Samsung has opened the SDK for the developers to work on.

Quite similar to the speculations, the device features IP68 waterproofing and can stay in 1m of water for 30 mins.

The S7 Edge will feature Vulkan. For intuitive gaming, Samsung has included as a game launcher that can be used during games to aid gaming, while it has also announced a $200 Galaxy Game Pack that includes credits for the popular games.

Pricing and availability

The device will be available starting March 11, while preorders will commence in a week. Select countries will receive a Gear VR as a gift when you order. Pricing has not been unveiled yet, though judging from former generations we presume that it should start from around $600 off-contract.
