Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) has revealed the release date for the Nike+ edition of the Apple Watch Series 2. The Cupertino-based company confirmed the news by updating the Apple Watch Nike+ page on its official website.
Last month, Apple launched the second-generation Apple Watch Series 2 at an event in San Francisco. Apple showcased the Nike variation as well, but without giving details about availability.
Meanwhile, the Apple Watch is currently the world’s best-selling wearable device with more than 12 million units sold since hitting stores in April 2015. Apple’s original iPhone sold 6 million units during its first year on the market.
The first-generation Apple Watch, with an average selling price of $500, has brought in about $6 billion in revenue for Apple. Despite the new model, estimations indicate Apple will sell fewer smartwatches this year. Apple’s collaboration with the sports company could boost sales, though.
Specs and comparison to Apple Watch Series 2
Nike’s particular version adds extra features such as the unique breathable Nike Sports Band, Nike watch faces, and Nike+ Run Club app integration. New color options include a mix of Black and Volt, Black and Cool Gray, Flat Silver and Volt, or Flat Silver and White bands.
The Apple Watch Series 2 Nike+ comes in 38mm and 42mm size, and with Silver or Space Gray aluminum finishes. It also sports the same benefits as the Apple Watch Series 2, including a faster processor than its predecessor, a built-in GPS, stronger water resistance, and a much brighter display.
The two watch faces feature Nike’s classic Volt color, which owners can use on Apple’s watch faces. The Apple Watch Nike+ is compatible with Nike’s software, Apple’s watchOS 3 and all other apps that run on the device.
Apple Watch Series 2 Nike+ release date and price
Available on October 28, the Apple Watch Series 2 Nike+ will compete against rivals Fitbit, Jawbone, and Samsung. They offer fitness trackers that bend as smartwatches. Apple will also have to face off Google’s upcoming watches set for an early 2017 release.
Pre-orders for the Apple Watch Nike+ are open now on Apple’s website. They will ship to customers at the beginning of November. The Apple Watch Nike+ is a Series 2, so it will have the same price. The 38mm model will cost $369, while the 42mm version will have a $399 price tag.
