After a long waiting period, The Pokémon Company finally announced not one but 3 upcoming games to lead the Pokémon Go transition into the Nintendo Switch. The announcement came via Pokémon’s official Twitter account, and it marks a huge transition point between Pokémon Go and the core series despite being criticized by some fans due to Pikachu and Eevee titles.
These three new games will allow Pokémon fans to engage in what seems to be the future of gaming, with Nintendo adding up a cross-platform feature in these games, allowing both mobile and Nintendo Switch players to play with one another regardless of their devices. Plus, this move made Pokémon Co’s take on a 3.5 percent boost in their market value, proving that investors are definitely excited about the upcoming Pokémon repertoire.
Pokémon Quest
The first title will be Pokémon Quest, which is now available on Nintendo Switch for free. It features cute and fun blocky animations, and it will allow players to adventure into the world of Tumblecube Island, where Pokémon will be looking for friendly prowls, food, and treasures. Also, it will allow players to customize base camps, and will also feature 3 main monster battles.
However, this game will not feature the traditional RPG based combat dynamic that allows trainers to have complete control of their Pokémon, instead they will go on their own will and players will only be allowed to tap their attack meters once they’re full. This could be a turn off for many traditionalists; however, this game targets new generations, especially due to this new crafting and building feature as an alternative to Minecraft.
Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu! & Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee!
This was one of the most speculated titles, and it doesn’t only present graphics upgrades but also consists of a remake of Pokémon Yellow. It will have a more anime-like animation among other elements, like the Pikachu companion who constantly changes attires and wears cute different clothes.
Also, it is almost certain that the game will be a host to the first generation of Pokémon that was created, but this game is mainly targeting nostalgia. Plus, Let’s Go will be an interactive title with the 2016 hit Pokémon Go, which could somehow bring back the phenomenon and add some interesting gameplay dynamics.
Upcoming Gen 8 title for Switch
Finally, Nintendo did confirm the fact that there is a core title of the series in development for Switch. Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing much of it until later in the year or perhaps even next year, since it’s scheduled to debut in 2019.
