Motorola’s (NASDAQ: MSI) Moto lineup upgrade is right around the corner, hence a slew of pictures allegedly exhibiting the upcoming models have been surfacing on the web for the past few months.
A recent YouTube video that has just been pulled off shows us the front and rear panel of the mid-range Moto G handset. According to screenshots from the video, it appears that the back cover of the G is a plastic polycarbonate slate found in previous generations as well.
The reviewer also shared the technical specifications of the handset unveiling that it will have 1GB of RAM, 8 gigs of storage capacity expandable via microSD, a 5-inch screen – all of which can be found in last year’s model -. He also mentioned that under the hood the Moto G will be packing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 quad-core chip clocked at 1.4Ghz along with Adreno 306 GPU and LTE compatibility – last year’s model had Snapdragon 400 on board. The YouTube user added that the phone will be featuring a 13-megapixel rear sensor and a 5-megapixel shooter on the front which could be considered as significant upgrades over the second generation’s cameras.
The video did not disclose the resolution of the display though based on our experience and other reports we estimate that the 720p HD resolution will be maintained in the third-generation Moto G as well.
Looking at the two previous generations of the G it is obvious that the new iteration does not have much to say. Design wise it is identical to the rest and in terms of specs, according to rumors, there were not big efforts there either. One could characterize it as an S upgrade – i.e. iPhone 5s -, therefore people will probably opt for the second gen G which was amid the best mid-range phones for this season and can now be found at incredible off-contract prices online.
The handset is expected to be unveiled this September along with its bigger brother, the Moto X, both of which will be coming with Android 5.1.1 – latest version of Lolipop – straight out of the box.
